SOURCE: saab 93 tid would faulty egr valve cause it to go into limp mode and activate engine managment light

DON'T GUESS.

When the service engine soon light (Also called the check engine light or engine management light) is turned on this is to alert you to the fact that Powertrain Control Module (computer) has detected a failure somewhere in the systems it controls you may not feel any difference in the way the engine runs, this can be the transmission or the engine or emission system, there are fault codes set in the modules memory for these faults. What needs to happen now is to have the powertrain control module scanned with a special tool called an OBD2 electronic engine control scanner or a OBD2 code reader. Once the code(s) are read then you must perform the diagnostics for each code and make the appropriate repairs based on the findings of the diagnosis that was performed, this is called doing "Pinpoint" testing.

I have changed engine oil and fitted a new oil filter,How can i turn off the engine management icon off.

Oil an filter have nothing to do with engine light . The light is for the OBD2 emission standards , you car is polluting 1.5 times greater then the EPA allows . If the light is on there are DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored in the PCM / ECM -engine computer ! This is in America an it sounds like you mite be in the UK . We don't talk like that over here , fitted a new oil filter ! We would say put on or installed a new filter ! If in fact you are in the UK the light being still means there is a problem an a DTC is set .

My check engine light and vtm light are on in my 2008 Honda Pilot I checked the codes it's saying the egr valve is bad would that cause the Vtm light to come on to

Yes, the VTM-4 module will light up.

Here's the deal; when you manually turn on the Variable Torque Management-4 system, the light to the console switch is illuminated- letting you know that the vehicle is in traction control mode- and it is functioning properly.

However, if you did not manually activate the VTM, and your cruising along under normal driving conditions, but you start experiencing engine problems, like when the Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve starts to malfunction, this malfunction will cause the engine to misfire and lose engine power.

When this loss of engine power occurs, the VTM perceives that the engine power is being reduced to restore traction to the car's drive line (axle and wheels)- so it triggers the light to go on.

The triggering of the VTM could also happen when the idle speed control valve malfunctions.

So once you have the EGR valve replaced, the codes on the OBD module should be cleared; the check engine light will turn off; and the VTM system light will turn off too.

The engine malfunction light turn on and brought it to the dealer. said P0406 and needs egr replacement. but the light turns off again and after a week it turns on again for 1 day. now the light is gone....

Sounds like you have a carbon buildup in the valve. The EGR should be located near the altenator on the right side of the engine, depending on what engine you have. 4 bolts, 2 8mm and 2 10mm.. take it off and careful not to lose the metal gaskets.. spray the valve down with carb cleaner and wipe it out.. pump the valve to make sure it plunges ok and replace. should fix your problem. Or you can replace the valve yourself new for about $80.
Here is the procedure if you care to do it yourself.

Tools: 8 mm socket, 10 mm socketEquipment: Replacement EGR Valve, Replacement EGR Gasket (metallic)1. Disconnect the electrical fitting attached to the EGR valve. You will need to unlock it (red tab) and then depress the latch near the rear of the fitting before sliding it off.2. Disconnect the vacuum tube connected to the top of the EGR valve using an 8 mm socket. It may be easier to remove the entire vacuum tube by diconnected it at the top of the engine as well (also 8 mm).3. Using a universal socket joint (I found using a 1/4" drive was necessary to get the clearances around the alternator), remove the 2 bolts holding the EGR valves to the exhaust manifold of the engine using a 10 mm socket. The bottom bolt is a very tight clearance.4. Remove the valve and gasket.5. To install, reverse the steps using the new EGR Valve and EGR Gasket.6. The 10 mm bolts should be torqued to 225 in-lbs7. The 8 mm bolts that fasten the vacuum tube to the EGR valve should be torqued to 100 in-lbs.
Tip: I have found that if you loosen the alternator mounting bolts, you can get just a little more wiggle room to get a socket on the bottom bolt.

Good luck, i hope this helps, please rate me a fixya.

The engine management light coming on could be the result of any number of things/systems that are monitored by your engine computer. EGR valve failures are very rare. (Although many get changed by DIYer's trying to "guess" what may be causing the problem.) Your engine computer will record a fault code to tell you why it has turned this light on. I would recommend having your computer system scanned to find out exactly which system the computer is having a problem with, then properly diagnose that system to locate the actual cause of the failure.
