Question about 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

2001 jeep keeps overheating

I have a 2001 jeep laredo v6 . When ever it gets really warm out or I'm sitting in a drive through it starts over heating to the point where I have to pull over and let it cool off for about an hour. I think it may be the fan or the sensor to the fan but i'm not sure. What else could be the problem? And how do I fix it? Thank You for any answers to this question.

You actually need to look at the fan and see if it's coming on. Another cause of your problem that often shows up in spring is a partially blocked "marginal flow" condition in the radiator. (works fine in colder weather but can't shed heat fast enough in warmer weather. This usually gives itself away by having a very slow fill rate when putting coolant in., also by developing cold spots when the remainder of the core is warm to the touch.

2003 Jeep Cherokee Laredo started overheating after replacing thermostat.

This is s common fault after replacing thermostat, there is a system bleed screw located on radiator which will need bleeding? If you warm engine up"only warm not hot" then locate bleed screw and slacken off, not unscrew all the way? You will hear a hissing noise of the air in you system. Very similar to central heating radiator in a house! Once you have water coming through then tighten up bleed screw/bolt and give engine a bit of a run. Hope this helps

2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo overheating

There is a good chance the head gasket is leaking.
If the air flow thru the radiator is good, and the coolant flow is good, there could be something like an exhaust restriction that is causing extra heat, or the head gasket may be leaking.
Will it get hot just sitting still, or do you have to be driving it ?

You probably have an electric radiator fan that isn't working properly. First thing to check would be fuses, then swap relays if no blown fuses are seen, and finally check at the fan connector for power. If everything is good, you need to replace the fan motor. It isn't very fun trying to figure out how to get the fan shroud/fan out. The 4 bolts holding it to the radiator are in the worst spots and it will prob take an hour or so to get the bolts out before you realize that it's super tight in there. Good luck

you electric fan probably isnt working with vehicle warmed up lift hood and watch temperature gauge when it starts to over heat check to see that fan is working if not it could be the fan relay or fan itself if the fan does turn on its most likley the thermostat
