Try starting it with the shift lever in neutral, if it starts, the transmission switch is bad (automatics), or with the key to start position move the shift lever thru the range of gears. If a stick shift and the clutch pedal must be pressed down, the clutch switch may be going out if intermittent starts

Starter motor is stuck on, even when the key's aren't in the ignition it is tuning over. disconnecting the earth from the battery was the only thing that stopped it.

Sounds like the key barrel is broke causing cross connections. Replacement barrels are cheap enough and can be fitted to match your key. Not a major job.

Why wont my 1995 dodge caravan start , i turn ignition on all normal lights come on the dash as usual and i here fuel pump engage but when i turn the key it wont turn over at all and battery is good a

Check starter motor, give it a smack with a hammer, might turn over after that, this is a sign the stater motor brushes are most likely worn out. Or and check ignition switch below the ignition barrel.

Replace your key or try your spare often time the security chip is worn or not working properly if that isn't itand you can get it to turn on short the starter by taking a large screwdrived(makesure the handle is insulated either plastic or rubber) and touch both terminals on the starter if it starts its the starter relay. Could also be a bad ignition cylinder or loose connection at the ignition cylinder both of which would require removing steering column cover

My ignition will not turn, the steering is locked also. I had a previous problem where when you put the key in the car would not crank, turn over or anything. Then after a while it would just crank up.

The previous problem sounds like it was probably the starter motor playing up but may of been related to your current problem. The ignition barrel sometimes locks at the same time as the steering and you have to move the steering wheel that little bit of movement back and forward whilst turning the key to unlock them. If this does not work then it may be a problem with the ignition barrel which may need replacing. The other 2 things it could be is the starter relay or a fuse.

The problem sounds very much as if it is on the electrical side. OK so here is the path: Battery, Ignition switch position 2 and fuel pump is engaged, position 3 and current passes through the starter fuse and relay to the starter solenoid (located piggy back on the starter motor) The starter solenoid pushes the starter motor armature forward to engage with the toothed rim of the flywheel. At the same time the armature bridges the contacts between the high power contacts to cause the motor to spin up and turn the engine over. Check the external stuff first. Make sure the battery terminal and cable connections are clean and tight. Make sure the earth return strap from the engine block to the car body is intact, clean and secure, free of corrosion (unbolt, wire brush clean and re-bolt). Remove starter motor and solenoid, dismantle and check on the heavy duty electrical power striker plate contacts for wear, replace as necessary (often these starter motors are by Denso and replacement kits for the copper contacts can be got for less than $10). Check the main starter fuse, clean the contacts until bright. Check the starter relay. If possible remove the cover and inspect the printed circuit board, resolder any dry or annular cracked joints. Pass a folded piece of fine sand paper between the electrical breaker contacts to freshen them up. Make sure the relay pins and corresponding sockets are all clean and bright. The above sounds like a lot of work but once it is done and you are reassured that everything is as it should be you will not need to re-examine this for another ten years or more. Lastly, make sure the ignition switch is OK. Contacts can become worn and if you find that a wiggle the ignition barrel with the key in results in 'start' versus 'no start' then the fault is here.

2000 reg clio 1.2 and SOMETIMES it will not start.

Hi, if when you turn the key to start the car the engine dont turn over as if its trying to start then this indicates that you have a problem with your starter motor it is the selanoid on the starter starting to fail

Sometimes it will turn the engine over starting the car and other times it will do nothing and you might here a slight clocking noise coming from the starter motor.

If your battery is ok and holds the charge ie the lights are bright without the car running then this indicates that your battery is ok and that the starter needs replacing. Sometimes you can get away with giving the starter motor a few taps with a hammer this sometimes clears any muck inside the starter selonoid getting it working for a bit longer but eventually it wont work at all so its best ot get this done sooner rather that later.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Starting Toyota Estima Lucida

There are various things this could be ie inhibitor switch on auto box relays wiring fault or ignition barrel problems try putting the starting the car in N instead of P and wiggle gear lever about other option bypass everything and connect a live feed straight to starter motor cranking wire which is located on the starter motor, if car still wont turn over tap starter motor with a hammer, if hammer trick works then you need a new starter

Most likely there you have a security system VAT (Vehicle Anti-Theft) module. If you try to bypass this the car will not start. Have a mechanic or yourself get to the main wiring harness to the ignition in the steering column under the dash, unplug it and use another ignition with a key in it to learn the security system code first before trying to start it.
