Car will not run unless gas in carb

I believe timing is off on distrubutor if so will that make it not run? I can pour gas in carb and it runs til gas is gone. I no distrubutor timin is off a little.. Could it be a bad fuel pump?

Also I've pulled distrubutor set harmonic balancer at 10 past 0 and reset distrubutor. Still same thing. If I cut key on and off it'll try to start like it's getting barely enough gas from pump

Sounds like the fuel pump is bad. The engine is just not getting fuel unless you pour it in the carb.

Testimonial: "That's my thought a weak pump as I can see injectors barely mist and if I cut car on and off several times it almost cranks. If I pour about a cap full of gas in carb it fires up til gas is gone."

What would make a not start unless I pour gas into intake

Hi Clyde:
Since you mention "gas rail" I'm assuming fuel injected.
I'd check the fuel pressure in the rail. Should be around 40 PSI.
If pressure is OK then injectors not working. Time to check cps.
You know the spark side is OK since it will run.

Fuel in filter and start pouring gas in carb, but won't stay running

Make and Model, year of vehicle?
I'm assuming the vehicle won't run unless you pour gas into the intake. If the vehicle will start and run while manually feeding gas to the engine, you can rule out spark and timing issues. Usual suspects in fuel system are dead fuel pump (electrical or mechanical?) clogged delivery system ( fuel line, filter, injector or jet) or intake leak (bad gasket or seal, vacuum leak, stuck valve). 25310438-za4bqvjhdrn3arnyccyp5xaz-5-0.jpg

Car won't run till you pour gas in the intake then will run til gas is used up

It most likely is your fuel pump. But first I would check the fuel filter if it is completly clogged and not letting fuel get through it could be that.Your fuel pump has an electric motor, when you turn your key you should hear a motor go on.

Car was running good, parked for a year now it won't start unless you pour gas in carb

It is most Likely your fuel pump, or possibly a clogged fuel filter. I had the same problem on my grand am, put in a new pump and that solved it.

1998 1500 will not start unless I pour a little gas in the carb. When I stop the engine after running a while it will not start again unless I pour gas into carb again. Any ideas?

It is your fuel pump or fuel filter. When you turn your key on, you should hear a buzzing sound for a second or two. If you don't hear it, thats what it probably is. If you have a fuel pump relay or fuse, check that first. If the pump kicks on, check the filter. One of these is your solution my friend.

1980 mercedes v8 gas, fuel problem running?

If the car has a carb (not fuel injected) try removing the air filter cover and pouring a small amount of gas down the carb . Now try and start it aND see if it will start. If it starts and runs for a 10-30 seconds and then dies, it is a fuel delivery problem. Car should start if you add gas unless the car is being flooded out. I can't really help you with a fuel injection system except to suggest to replace the fuel filter and see what happens. Just remember you need spark, fuel and air to make combustion. YOu say the car fires so you have spark. I would focus on the fuel delivery.
