It is not hard to change the sensor, it just screws into a threaded hole. The light will not go out immeditaly, after the sensor is replaced. It needs to go thru a drive cycle. Your best bet is to replace the sensor and get the code cleard by whoever scanned it for the 0031 code.

I just encountered the same problem 2 days ago. I read a blog that said to check the gas cap to make sure it was fully tightened. (I know, seems weird that would be associated to traction and stability control sensors) So I removed, then re-tightened the gas cap, unhooked the battery for 10min and no more check engine/vsc/trac light. 2 days later, they reappear. I took it to Autozone where they will do a free code scanner of your vehicle's computer and these are the potential problems that it detected:
open or short circuit condition
poor electrical connection
failed oxygen sensor
EFI relay fault
Will probably have to take it in somewhere because there are 4 O2 sensors and I am not quite sure on what to do with the rest of the list.
