Have you checked to see if it is an electronic problem? Possibly a short in the wire connecting the button?

Won't go into overdrive

Atop the tranny is the overdrive solenoid. For a check run 12V + to the solenoid, you'll hear a small click sound. If it does click, stable your temporary wiring and take for a test drive. If she works then you know the tranny is ok and you need to look at the OD relay or temp switch. Push comes to shove you can rewire thru another switch.

Please let me know if this had assisted you.

Overdrive will not connect when switched on

3 things can be the problem: The button that you press for the overdrive may be damaged and the parts have come loose inside and that was why it would come in and out of overdrive (the whole assembly where the button is) The solenoid which is either inside the tranny or right outside the tranny may have been damaged . You might have 4 soleniods in total. Or your computer is bad. A bad computer will cause more effects to the car as you drive it though. Some mitsubishi engine have a safety thing that if there is something wrong with the tranny or parts there of, it will not allow you full control of options (similar to vanos engines and tranny's in bmw's) I hope this helps.

My 1990 Town Car auto tranny slips in overdrive

There are both bands and clutches in your transmission and likely you have an internal pressure loss that is affecting overdrive. Repair cost i can't give you but being as old as it is likely you can get an identical vehicle for what it will cost to repair. You may be able to prolong the inevitable by using a conditioner such as lucas,(only one I've seen that actually does help in some cases) but it can't fix what is worn, so even if it works better, it will only be temporary. I know that isn't exactly what you wanted to hear but that's the way it is.

No verdrive on my v46 mits pajero

I'd check the overdrive solenoid atop of the tranny. Apply 12V + to it and see if it will go in to OD. If it does you will need to check the OD relay or temp switch. Or rewire a new switch.

Overdrive going out

well not having overdrive has nothing to do with the motor you are having transmisson trouble and the first thing you need to do is get the tranni serviced flushed new filter and put a quart of lucas tranni treatment in i have seen that stuff stop tranni slip it worked in the 1999 envoy i have right now and do not floor it any more that will send your tranni to a early grave

You need to do a full service of the tranny. You need a filter change, and a fell flush of the tranny. Make sure you are using the right tranny fluid for it as well.

1990 f150 transmission up shift to early

Sounds like the passing gear cable is out of adjustment. Get a shop manual and see what the specs are on how to adjust it properly. It is a pretty simple fix.

Toyota's automatic overdrive is always electronically switchable; it could be the OD solenoid (in the transmission).

4th gear locked out on 1990 740 volvo wagon

Sounds like your overdrive solenoid is dirty or broken. Take off the solenoid and clean it really well, put it back on and see if it works. If not you will have to replace it.
This happened to my fathers and I had to clean it.
Sometimes the tranny oil is so dirty that little bits of metal get stuck in the solenoid area and you have to scrape them off. You might want to do a tranny flush if it's bad.
