There is a squeal sound (high pitch) coming out of

I have a 1996 grand cherokee jeep, it runs well. Recently, there is a squeal sound (high pitch) coming out of compressor (near the pulley) while engine is running. I have not used the air conditioner for a long time because it won't cool the passenger compartment. What could be the problem? should it be served immediately?

The seal on the AC compressor has probably failed and allowed all the refrigerant and lubricant to be lost. This allows the bearing to run dry and now it is failing and making noise.

1. You could have the AC repaired, the compressor repaired or replaced and the system refilled.

2. You could have a mechanic disconnect the system and possibly remove the compressor (only if this model does not use a belt that relies on the compressor being in place).

3. It is probably way too late to try to refill the AC system with R134a refrigerant as it would just run out past the failed seals.

If anyone has an AC unit that just recently stopped making cold air they should attempt to recharge the unit (if it uses R134a - check your manual or underhood stickers). I just did and saved my compressor and AC unit from further damage.

If the drive belt is a bit dried out it may slip on the compressor (takes a lot of power to turn it) If belt is good or noise does not disappear after replacement then you need a compressor clutch. (need special tools for removal and replacement. sometimes replacing with a decent unit from scrapyard is easire and far less $.

I have a 1996 jeep grand Cherokee. It runs fine except for the squealing belt! Just replaced the water pump and the belt and it's now worse than it was before! Any ideas? I checked the auto tensioner...

You have an out of alignment belt run across the pulleys of the engine, this causes the belt to make noise as it rubs on the edge. Many times this is causes by the crankshaft vibration damper coming part and the pulley walking outward.

I have a 2004 Jeep grand cherokee straight six. I replaced the TPS sensor & IAC sensor. recently experienced high idle while in park, lack of power, and engine light came on with a code of P0121? ...

Depending on the system, P0121 is Throttle/pedal position sensor/switch A circuit range/ performance problem.

Did the TPS have slotted mounting holes? If so it may need to be adjusted.

My 2002 Grand Cherokee Laredo makes a high pitched noise that appears to come from the front end. It gets louder and more pronounced as you accellerate. It is similar to the noise you used to get with...

Small things first.Check your belt and also the pre-tensioner.Try turnind the air-con off and try it.These things can squeal their head off if it's the problem.Check these things 1st just to elimenate them from the process. It's very likely a belt problem with the symptoms you gave.Hope this helps.
(make sure all fluids are good,e.g. power/steer etc.)

2005 grand cherokee squealing and loss of coolant

Check belt tension, squeeling is most likely due to belt slippage. Have you noticed any fluid leaking from under your Jeep? Coolant level drop could be from bad water pump, when the pump needs replacing, water flows out of a "weep hole". It could be leaking onto your belt also, causing it to squeel

Loud squealing sound in my engine

Try removing the belt and turning each pulley by hand. If everything is smooth and free, with the belt still off, drive down the block once and see if the noise is there (this will eliminate all rotating accessories on the front). If you hear the noise, then there is a problem deeper inside. Oil pressure is good? Dont' forget when doing this, you will have no power steering, so be careful.
