Question about 2005 Jeep Liberty
Just purchased, 130,00 miles. Transfer selector arm in 2wd, dash says ''Part Time'' and vehicle is in 4wd. Can tell by the noise after you reach about 30mph and higher. Part Time 4wd does not appear to be disengaging. If I put the lever in 4wd the Part Time light goes off.
I questioned the dealer about my 2005 because mine was disengaging what I thought to be rough compared to what I was used to. They told me that I should shift the vehicle into Neutral before shifting the selector. I have also found that shifting between Reverse and Drive a couple of times while stopped has helped as well. By doing these couple of things, I have had no trouble since. I hope this helps as it might at least be something to try.

My 2002 Jeep Liberty had the same problem. I took the guard on the 4wd shifter off and then was able to shift it around enough so that it was not in Part-time 4wd. There was no noise associated with the light being on however.
