Could be the solenoid on the starter is going bad. but best bet is to get a whole new stasrter as a new solenoid comes on it. solenoid is almost as expensive as getting both together

I had a bad key. One dealer told me I need a new twice unit, which is very expensive. After a little research, I found in the owners manual that it could be the key. all you have to do is put the key in the ignition and press the buttons on the key a number of times and that usually fixes the problem temporarily. you will need to purchase a new key though.
It could also be the alarm system. Press the night panel button for 1 min and release. after that the car should start. if it doesn't you have a more serious problem.

I had the same problem with mine but only when the engine was hot. Turned out to be the heat from the gearbox was getting into the gear selector which sits on top of the gearbox. When it gets hot it creates an open curcuit and senses the car is not in the correct starting gear eg park or nuetral. Replacing the selector fixed the problem. This may fix yours if it only does it when the engine is hot.

Yep, same happened with me, if you turn the key to start position and try to move the gear lever at the same time you will get the starter kicking in. This will confirm the gear selector problem. Its an easy fix but be careful when you disconnect the lever as there is a small bush which sometimes collapses. Difficult to find that part, I just fashioned one out of hardwood and it held for the remainder of the time I had the car.

No check engine light, occasional temp guage malfunction, and it wont start after i have already replaced the fuel filter spark plugs ignition pack and crank shaft sensor. why wont my 2001 saab 9-3 viggen...

still could have a fault in crank sensor wiring ,,, you need to plug in diagnostic tool when it wont start and see if you have a engine revs reading ,,, also check if fuel is getting to the engine ,,,, that car also has immobiliser so try spare key to see if problem goes away ,,,,,, wont get codes on that age group unless problem happens when driveing

Will not turn over

You should have a neutral safety switch between the key switch and the starter to keep you from starting it in gear.
I would check the starter for voltage and the neutral safety switch, then the key switch.

Saab 9-5 Aero Wagon 2000 wont restart when warm or after running

I have a 1999 Saab 9-5. I had a similiar problem. The car would always run cold. It would get hot and the engine would quit. It could be anywhere. One mile from start to 50 miles from start. Once it cooled down it would re-start but the cool down time was always different. Only difference for me was my car would crank, just not run. Replaced the crank position sensor ($60), no more problems! Good luck!
