Stalling I have a 2001 cavalier. It has a 2,2L engine with a manual transmission. My problem is one day it just started to stall when coming to a stop with your foot off the pedal. it starts but you have to give it gas, otherwise it won't start on it's own. Someone suggested changing the fuel filter and air.We even changed the throttle position sensor, but that hasn't fixed the problem. Any solutions?

Try cleaning the throttle body and butterfly plate. If that doesnt work, replace the IAC (idle air control) motor.

SOURCE: 2004 cavalier stalled on highway wont start

DEFINITELY change the filter...It's only about ten times past its useful life. Then check fuel pump, pump relay and fuse. (doubt if you'll have to!!)

SOURCE: truck stalls when I give it gas

It sounds like they have got the distributor out of time. You will need to adjust the distributor. That is what it sounds like.

Check your IAC motor (Idle Air Control) It could be sticking open.
Ps. Might be called Idle Speed Control motor it depends on the make and i forget what chevy calls theres.

Check Engine Light P0740. Car stalls when starting (occasionally), and the transmission slips when stopped.

This code is set when the transmission control module detects improper voltage at the torque converter clutch. This can be caused by low tranny fluid/dirty tranny fluid/defective torque converter clutch solenoid/electrical connections to from solenoid

Have a 2001 cavalier.... Starts fine now idles but when put into gear it stalls?

Possible torque converter clutch issue. Is the check engine light on? If so, have it scanned for transmission codes. If the torque converter clutch is locked up when it isn't supposed to be, the vehicle will stall. Another thing to check is for coking on the throttle plate. Remove the hose that goes from the air filter box to the throttle assembly and look inside the throttle bore to see if it is dirty/black. If so, use carb cleaner and a toothbrush to clean while holding throttle plate open and remove as much carbon deposits as possible. This can affect minimum idle airflow and also cause a stall

Car almost stops when i move it

If your car has an automatic transmission, its very likely that torque convertor clutch switch may not be working properly and is causing your engine to stall at low speeds and during braking.have your trans checked out by a pro and verify the condition

Car hesitates/stalls when engine is warm and car starts to move.

Sounds like a bad motor mount, pop the hood and see if the motor shakes or moves rapidly when u put it in gear holding down the brake.

91 automatic Cavalier stalls after stopping

It sounds like the torque converter clutch. Just unplug it. It is the square 4 pin plug on the front of the transmission. Once it is unplugged and you get it unlocked, it will be fine. Just leave it unplugged, it won't hurt anything.

Vibration when in gear, and stalling.

The problem is the torque converter solenoid. I had it happen on my 94 Cavalier a few years back and was a cheap fix at the local car mechanic. What happens is the transmission warms up and hits a certain speed where the solenoid engages, but then it sticks and won't disengage until it cools down sufficiently. When it sticks, it causes the car to shake when slowing down and will snub out the engine if you come to a stop.

Stalling And Engine Revving

Sounds like a transmission problem. My car was doing that and it turns out it had a transmission fluid leak that had led to major transmission damage. The bad news: the entire transmission had to be rebuilt.
