How effective is transmission oil /gear box oil to an automatic vehicle if it has not been changed for a long time. What can it cause on the vehicle? (in my case a Toyota Noah Auto)

all transmission oil break down from the heat and stresses generated by the transmission operation
the additives in the oil are eventually all neutralized and the residues so formed create a gum that slows down the change actions and the ability of the servos and solenoids to operate correctly
bands and clutch pack tend to slip or not release quickly on ratio changes
indications that an oil change is require include slow to change up or down
staying in a ration when coming to a stop resulting in sudden gear shift or shudder
not change at the required speed/engine rpms range
requiring the foot to be lifted to effect a change of ratios
many manufactures recommend a change at around 60,000 klms but other manufacturers like GM say it is not necessary
if you have a dipstick, pull it out and if the oil is not cherry red or a really light tan color ( depending on the atf specified oil) have it changed professionally

could be a lead or plug breaking down which are the most obvious when under load ,but please explain why the transmission oil changed ?? i was always taught that auto boxes are for old women and the oil in them never needs changing .I have never seen this on any workshop manuals for the need to change the gearbox oil on a auto.

The automatic gearbox on my mondeo 2002 changes gears but slips

In the engine compartment, you will need to locate the transmission dipstick. Usually on the left side of the motor, labeled "Trans fluid". Pull it out and check the fluid level. Your problem could be as simple as putting transmission fluid in it. That will make it slip. You fill the transmission right down the dipstick tube.

Seems transmission gear shift problem

Pull the distick and smell the oil. If it's discoloured (black or dark brown) you know the transmission friction plates are burnt and needs a rebuilt.
