Electrical Problem?Runs great then shuts down, let it sit runs fin

I have a 1998 plymoth grand voyager. It starts and runs fine for exactly 6 minutes then jerks and jumps and shuts down.I let it sit 7 min or more and it cranks and runs perfect until it sits a few hours and will do the same thing. If I try to crank it back up before that 7 min, it will do it again until I let it sit the full 6 to seven minutes?????? I have taken it to 3 mechanics and they have not got a clue???

Sounds like the ECM is bad. This is a common problem, when the ECM gets hot there is a solder joint that seperates, it makes contact again once it cools down

Is that a fact? I have 2000 Cherokee , basically the same problem, only I would describe it differently.

I'll bet you do have an immobilizer. When you turn the key, when it works, look at the lights on the top of the dash, toward the right side. Do you have a yellow light that lights up that says alarm? What you are describing is a common problem with 98 caravans. It sounds like you have a cracked circuit board in the cluster. When the cluster messes up it crashes the diagnostic line of the vehicle. When this happens the antitheft system cannot communicate with the ecm.

I got this mini van and it will start and run great but no matter how long it runs u have to let it set for 20 or 30 minutes before it will restart anyone have a solution?

Have it scanned for codes, which you can do at an Autozone, or Pep Boys for free & see if any codes come up & start from there. If more help needed, get back to us with results of code scan. Easier & cheaper for everybody that way.

My 1993 Grand Voyager won't start.

I had a similar problem a while back, something you may want to check on is a sensor that check the temperature outside, it sometimes shorts out and tells the computer that it is -100 outside and the computer shuts off the engine and will not spark or do anything as it is trying to protrect your engine...sorry i can't remember the exact name of the sensor but its a faulty one and only costs about 50$ to replace hope this helps
