Question about 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee
I was driving down the road and i felt the jeep kind of sputtering/ slowing down kind of like when you run out of gas. I started it back up and it started a couple times but wouldn't move, now it won't start at all. i put more gas in it and that wasn't the problem. i checked the distributer and that didn't seem to be wet.(we just got a pretty good amount of rain if that helps figure anything out) i have no idea what else to check and i don't want a mechanic to screw me for more money than i really need to spend. somebody help me please. :)
If you can gear the fuel pump running It may be OK but if you spray carb cleaner into the throttle body and it briefly starts, change the fuel filter (on frame rail on left side near the tank). If it does not start with spray, check for spark. Most common problem is crank position sensor, but, do not change it without testing first. (fairly expensive and difficult to change). There are numerous other tests you can do listed in inexpensive manuals such as haynes. (if replacing filter gets it running do a fuel pressure test to make sure pump is still OK)
