Its simple to unbolt them, but then you will need to go to your locale parts house that has a loaner tool program, and get strut spring depressors, with these special tools it is no big problem,Spring depressor fits on coils of spring and will hold spring depressed while you take center nut off and change strut.

No you should not, should be a pretty strait forward replacement. Reccommend have alignment performed after strut replacement.

Yes loosening the top strut/bracket is needed to adjust the alignment, the rear should be fine unless there is damage to rear suspension compontents that need replaced, however for that vehicle just the front.

1993 ford escort wagon struts or shocks? bottoms out rear clunk

That vehicle probably has rear shocks only but there is an easy way to tell a strut has a heavy coil surrounding the shock and is easily recognized. Hopefully it is shocks only - they are alot less expensive and easier to work on - Good Luck

97 ford escort 6 disc changer

check for something maybe jammed in the system and also try a cleaner disc to see if this helps the eye to read the disc and is this an after market changer or a standard accessory on the car when bought and if it is an aftermarket check to make sure it is hooked up correctly

sounds like your struts are running dry, they will need to be replaced, usually in pairs of both fron of both back, not very expensive to have repaired and also could be carried out at home by diy mechanic
