SOURCE: I need information on how to change spark plugs on a 2004 Dodge Dakota 4.7 liter V-8
Make sure that you buy the correct type plugs(Champion RC12MCC4 or equivalent). Also it may be a good idea to have a flexible-extension for your ratchet.

I had a similiar problem, found the solution there. It was the wiring harnes on the drivers side under the hood, just above the wheel well. there are a cluster of wires in a bundle. I unpacked the bundle carefuly and sure enough the were two or three wires all coroded, had wite powder from corosion. repaired the connections and bingo. I posted details at dodgeforums.com. browse around there. I posted pictures as well. this is a common problem.

My 2001 Dakota now works fine, I took it to a good reliable shop after much frustration. The problem was the crank position sensor in combination with an bad oxygen sensor. This was a very unusual problem with no consistency therefore hard to diagnose. Crank sensor $190.00 cdn oxygen sensor $130.00 cdn $300.00 in troubshooting, repair and diagnostics. Repaired by Gerald at AutoPro in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. Thanks Gerald
SOURCE: changing spark plugs
look under hood..you will see wires coming from distributor cap on top into your motor..if its an 8 cylinder there will be 4 in the back and 4 in the front.6 cylinder-3 in front 3 in back.get a 5/16 spark plug wrench and socket.you will need extension to reach back ones.if you bought new wires from parts store it will be even easier to find where plugs are located because you can compare the ones you bought and easier find the wires under the hood.the wire gets fatter as it goes into the motor.grab the fat part firmly and pull it off.boom theres your spark plugs.use your spark plug socket(5/16) with extension/ratchet and turn the plug until it comes out.do not break the plug or it will not come out.when you put a new one in screw it hand tight then 1 crank tight with the ratchet.when you change your wires do them one at a time as to avoid switching the wires up.on top of the distributor cap(where the wires lead to) there will be numbers as to what wire is for what cylinder...change plugs/wires 1 at a time dont take off more than 1 wire at a time!hope this helped!
Trouble Code Conditions:
Engine runtime 3 seconds, engine speed change under 1200 rpm, and the PCM detected a misfire condition present in one cylinder during the 200 (Catalyst) or 1000 revolution (Emission) test range.Note: If the misfire is severe, the MIL will flash on/off on the 1st trip!
