What to do? Buy 2002 Ventura Van or put more money into Taurus Wa
I'm looking at a 2002 Ventura Van and since I have never owned one would like to know some questions I should ask before purchasing. It has 86,000 and I can buy it for $1,000.00. I have to borrow the money for this and do not want to have to go borrow more money to start doing repairs. I would have to certify it. I am driving a 95 Taurus Wagon with 263,000 right now that I have redone the transmission, transmission seal, new starter, new battery, new muffler system, now it needs all new brakes and spring coil is broken. Approx: cost is $1,000.00 in repairs. I'm torn between putting the money into the Taurus or buying the newer car. Please help as I'm a single mom who has to have transportation. Thanks Debra

Re: What to do? Buy 2002 Ventura Van or put more money...
Thats a hard call to make without seeing the van. thats alot of miles on the wagon i would not recommend putting to much money in it.you need to have a good auto tech look at the van before you buy someone elses problems.
a 6ya Mechanic can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

There's only one thermostat and if your not circulating antifreeze the thermostat is either stuck closed or your cooling passages are clogged did anyone put stop leak in the motor if so they put in a lot and the engine is blocked buy change the thermostat and see what happens
To check to see if your fuel pump is working have someone run the ignition key while you listen at the fuel tank of your car, remove your fuel cap put your ear next tank hole and then have your helper turn car on but just so the dash lights up not to start the car.You should hear the fuel pump actuate or hum for a second or two,and if you don"t hear a hum then move to the fuses and if they are good move to your fuel injectors then check your plugs wires and Cole pack. The fuel pump relay is in the fuse box under the hood of the Taurus next to the battery its a black box and is the main power distribution box for your car. The fuel pump fuse is number 10 (A) in the power distribution box. On a 1998,1999 you can swap the fuel pump relay (B) with the EEC power relay (C) to check to check fuel pump operation.the best way to check your car is to use a OBD 2 car reader.hope this helps but you can also buy a Chilton manual if your willing to get your hands dirty and have some mechanical ability you can save your self a lot of money.I believe the going rate for mechanics now is about $105 dollars an hour and thats here in WA.State.
I believe this is a dealer part. I think I found what you are looking for at the website below. $30 -$40 +ship, which is discounted from list price. Let me know if this is not what you are looking for. http://www.silverstatefordparts.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=getJointLocator&siteid=214290&chapter=§ionids=2,2496&groupid=20050&subgroupid=61960&make=10&model=Taurus&year=2002&catalogid=1&displayCatalogid=0
why do they need to connect to engine ??? bit backward are we not ---where is the emmision analyser with the sensor up the exhaust ????and the full mechanical check ,brake roller tester ,shock absorber tester ,noise test?? over the pit with the wheels jerked about by metal plates to test ball joints and bearings.hammer to test for corrosion .NOT FORGETTING THE PAPERWORK ???
