Question about 1995 BMW 3 Series
Right, just picked up my 316, i bought it from e-bay, the lady who had it, broke down, and on the report it says suspected fuel pump problem, it won't start, when key is turned you can hear a buzzing/whining from what i assume is the fuel pump, now the question, is it the pump in the tank or the other one (and where is that located? under car or in engine bay?) and is it easy to fix yourself...
Any ideas as well to get a bit more out of the old girl performance wise? I know it's not easy with a 316 and to be honest i don't wanna spend millions on it
Not a problem, the fuel pump is in the rear passenger side (under the back seat) pop out the seat held by too clips onto the the rear seat, take out the sound deadining pad, undo the big black cover and get water pump pliers too undo the white cover lift out the pump, you should check the fuel gauge to see how much fuel is in the tank, no need to drain as long as you dont want petrol on your hands.
When you take the pump out, the most common problem is the thin Brown wire snaps off the sender unit, it buzzes but wont start. It should be around £30 for a good second hand pump.
I hope this helps.
