Cable is stretched/sprung. Access hood release panel and pull cable with channel locks.. or worse, something is stuck in the latch mechanism under hood.
See repair rep at Ford in any case.

SOURCE: Hood release broken

hi,
you might want to contact a local ford dealer mechanic and ask them if they know a trick before you try and locate that busted cable. Your going to have to do some looking/studying through the grille or under the front of the car, If the car has to come up off the ground I suggest using car ramps, theyre safer than jacking the car up and blocking it If you have to jack the car up blocking the rear wheels is a must and setting the parking brake, while the vehicle is in the air I strongly suggest using a secondary failsafe such as blocks of wood or large pieces of firewood to make absolutely sure the car does not move. Now looking up under the front fascia of the car you will probably encounter a large piece of plastic, it has to come off so you can see above it and its usually held in place by plastic screws or snaps, they either just unscrew or pop out, now with the plastic out of the way you have to study where the black plastic aircraft cable goes into the hood latch( busted latch release cable) and bypass it by either pulling the inner cable inside with needle nose pliers where it broke off, or pulling the metal area where the latch release cable was attatched with needle nose pliers. untill you get a replacement you can temporarily use some bailing wire to hook where the busted cable went and bring it through the grille with a loop.

good luck

SOURCE: 2003 ranger.the hood will not open. i think cable is loose /broke

You will need 2 people to get the hood open. While you pull on the hood release cable have an assistant gently pound on the center of the hood until it pops up. If this does not work, inspect the hood release lever to see if the pivot broken, if so pull directly on the cable with a pair of locking pliers. After you get the hood open make sure to spray the latch with penetrating oil (WD40)

SOURCE: Cant open ford Taurus hood 2003 pull cord doesn't work.

Sometimes it appears nothing happens but after pulling the hood get out and try reaching under the hood for the latch. However if nothing at all happened you need someone to press down lightly on the hood as you pull the cord.

My hood latch will not pop the hood just makes a klink noise tried pushing down and pulling up while pulling latch nothing how do i get my hood open

If you are pulling on the hood release inside the car and can't get the hood to open so you can get at the primary latch, the release cable is stretched. I had a car with this problem once. I got it open by reaching for the cable from under the bumper with a heavy-duty needlenose pliers and pulling it the rest of the way after jamming the release handle all the way to the release position inside the car. Once I got the hood open, I cut a strip of metal from the lid of a food can and crimped it around the cable next to the hood latch to take up the slack. I never had any trouble with it after that.

I have a 96 Volvo 850. The hood pops open from the release latch in the cab. The safety latch in front of the car that comes out from the grill will not release the hood from opening Suggestions?

I have the same problem on mine. Once the hood is released inside the cabin, do the following:
Push the release in on the hood, then pull up a bit on the hood and then the release should pull out completely unlocking the hood. Hope this helps.

Bentley gt bonnet release

Pop opens the hood
Pull or push the hood release until you heard the hood pop opening whether the hood release is inside your vehicle. However, you need to look anywhere for 2013 Bentley Continental GT W12 and through the grill, carefully feel under the grill and finally behind the bumper to find a lever, arm, button or handle if the hood release is apparently at the front. And then press, pull or push it from the front to back, side to side until finally it can release the hood.
Even though the hood will just open a tiny, it will possibly be stopped by a safety catch which is a metal lever. You should release the hood when you pressed one way or other in order to open all the way. When you are driving, this gizmo accidentally avoids opening the hood.
Raise the hood fast with one hand
Feel along the station between the grill and the hood for the safety catch with the other hand. The rest of the way is to release and raise the hood.
If it is necessary, secure the hood
It is fine if the hood can stay up easily all by itself for 2013 Bentley Continental GT W12. Only if it does not like that, you should have to find a hoop prop which is a thin and long metal rod attached to the bottom edge of the opening hood or to the underside of the hood. In other words, either lift or lower the rod and fit the finishing of it into the slot which is provided to hold it.

Hood release inside my 2000 ford focus popped to release but I can not open the hood of the car? what should I do?

Might just be stuck. Have someone pull the release as you FIRMLY pound on the front of the hood in the middle with your fist (NOT A HAMMER ! ! ! !).

If that works and it opens, get some WD40 and spray the latch and cable, lever, etc... and then work the release lever before closing it again. If the cable has broken....... it is very difficult to release without some automotive knowledge. I'm betting it is just stuck...

Good Luck.

How do I open the hood of a Mitsubishi L300 ?

  1. Locate the interior hood-release lever under the dashboard on the driver's side of the interior of the car.

  2. 2

Lift up and toward you on the hood release lever. The lever is connected to a cable that releases the hood. The hood will pop up about 1/2 inch when you pull the lever.

  3. 3

Move to the front of the car and locate the exterior hood-release lever under the front of the hood. It is located near the middle of the vehicle, just beyond where the front edge of the hood meets the body. Lift up on the inner lever.

  4. 4

Lift up on the edge of the hood while holding the inner lever in place. When the hood is up, find the hood prop and raise it, setting its tip in the hood-prop mount on the hood, to hold the hood up while you work in the engine bay.

Hood will not release

pull the lever and with your hand pull up on the hood. You may need somebody to hold the lever inside the car while somebody pulls up on the hood. The spring mechanism may be faulty.
