Question about 2002 Chevrolet Impala

1 Answer

I can put the key in the ignition but cannot even turn the key to the AC or ON position. It's like I am using the wrong key. Is this one of those passlock issues?

Ignition stuck on lock

1. Check battery - even if otherwise good, if it measures under 12 volts (even just under) it won't start. Saab's are finicky about that.

2. Does immobiliser recognize the key? If not, it won't turn. Are you using an original key mated to the car or a replacement key fob without the electronic guts?

3. Does key open the door? If so, put in ignition, turn to ON (if you can) and press Open Door button on key. Try even in Off position if not.

4. DO NOT spray anything into the ignition keyhole (as others may suggest). It will gum it up. If you have to, remove ignition keyhole and clean with alcohol.

Key won't turn

hi there,

Your car has a steering lock that clicks into place when you take the car key out of the ignition. This prevents thieves from being able to steer your car if they hotwire it. Sometimes the wheel is turned to just the right place to keep your key from being able to disengage that steering wheel lock. All you have to do is turn the wheel a little bit in either direction while you turn they key. and your done!

99 Regal GS 3800 supercharged wont crank key in ignition all lights go off and car does nothing help!!!

Sounds like you may have possibly TWO problems here. The ignition key not turning past the run position or even to the run position is most likely a lock cylinder issue and may be fixed by replacing the ignition lock cylinder, As for the power being killed when turning the ignition to the start position, that sounds like a defective ignition switch. these items are two seperate parts. The reason for the turn signal issue may be related to the ignition switch fault.
Hope this helps.

I replaced ignition switch and key cylinder on a 1970 Dodge Challenger. When putting everything back together, I cannot get the key clyinder to turn to the accessories position or the position to allow...

when you put the cylinder in you did put it back in 0 position as it will go in on 1 or 2 but you will not be able to move key from 0. it can easly be done putting the position in the wrong number when refitting.

I would reset my ECM, do this by turning key to on position with a/c on then remove positive battery cable, wait 30 sec. the turn off key and replace battery cable. Good luck with it.

Ignition locked, it is stuck in first position A,

Hi my name is adam and it sounds like the ignition is stuck due to the position of the wheel. You need to turn the wheel so that the pressure is relieved from the locking mecognism. Then take the key out and try to turn the key again.
