SOURCE: 2004 beetle changed head gasket. put back together

hi thanks for update the engine would run rough ifvalve timing was off a tooth however if in doubt ? recheck ! whenever you fit new belts or change always fit and work anticlockwise from the crankshaft ! this ensures the crank and cam side of belt and or chain is tight with the cam and crank t d c marks are aligned before you fit to other cogs and round tensioner did you compression test ? this also would verify lower comp's on each cyl due to valves not timed ie inlet+exhaust out of cynk ps do not ev engine too much just in case this is problem

SOURCE: I replaced the head gasket on my 97 Sunfire it doesn't start

If your timing is off you will have no power.check and make sure all timing mark's are correct. Some engine's are contact motor's,which mean's if your timing is off you could cause damage to valve's or piston's.Also you should do a compression test to be sure each cylinder has adequite pressure.Hope this help's.

Blew head gasket and would not start, changed gasket and still wont start

Make the timing belt is installed properly, otherwise all the intake valves will be bent because it is a high interference combustion chamber. Check compression after properly timed. If you are off any teeth at all the head will need to come back off to get repaired.

Change head gasket/intake gaskets Put back together truck run a little rough. So I mess with distributer cap thinking timings off and truck won't start ??

doing the head taking out the timing belt you need to check 3 times on 3 turns of the engine by hand to make sure the timing lines up with the marking. so that is time up turn. if you have to adjust then turn again if fine turn another time check then another. if it is out you start again until it right 3 times in a row.

Do i need to have my 2004 dodge intrepid anti theft code reset through a dealership if the heads and head gaskets were replaced? the entire top of the engine ws taken apart adn put abcl together.

i would disconnect the battery. removing both the positive and negative battery terminals. with both ends disconnected, hold the two terminals together for about 10 seconds. this will proform a hard reset on most chrysler vehicles. also, if this doesnt work, try turning the key to the on position, and then proforming the hard reset procedure.

Malibu was leaking water - changed intake & head gaskets - put all back together but now sounds like it is out of time and won't start - do you have an answer

One common issue when a shadetree mechanic changes the head gasket is that during the removal of the timing chain/belt and it's corresponding sprockets that the camshaft and crankshaft timing chain/belt sprockets are allowed to turn relative to one another if not properly indexed before reassembly. This causes the valve timing to be quite off once everything is put back together.
Checking to make sure that compression is proper in the engine should resolve whether or not this is your issue.

hello your intake gasket is most likely leaking internally into your engine.pretty common problem.the plastic and silicon gaskets get weak over time.
