Question about 2003 Hyundai Accent

Replaced 0xygen sensor in 2003 Hyundai Accent 3 Times Not Fixed!

I have a 2003 Hyundai Accent with a 16 DOHC 4 cylinder engine. My check engine light came on a few months ago and I had the codes read. The codes were p0030 and p0133. They came up as being a possible bad oxygen sensor (front position before the catalytic converter) or a bad electrical connection. I purchased a Bosch OE Type sensor from auto zone, put it in, disconnect the battery to reset the check engine light, but after driving the car for 100 miles the light came back on. I had the codes read and the same codes came up. I took the O2 sensor back to auto zone and asked for a new one. They gave me a new Bosch OE type sensor and I installed it, but the light came on again. So I order an Hyundai OEM Factory Oxygen Sensor, installed it, and the same story. The check engine light came back on. In order to beat a dead horse i figured I would try a universal sensor. I bought a Denso 4 wire O2 sensor, installed it, cleaned and put electrical grease on the connections, but I am still getting the same codes. What in the world could possibly be wrong with my car. I took it to a ASE mechanic and he told me that my oxygen sensor was bad. I told him I already replaced it and he said that he would have to start by replacing it again and then figuring it from there. I have to pass emissions in 1 month. P.S. I also replaced my 2nd bank oxygen sensor with a factory OEM sensor from Hyundai. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like you have either a lean or rich condition ocurring, could be exuast leak, vac leak, leaking fuel preasure regulator, cat convertor. At this point would go to dealer for diagnosis.

Hi.

1. make sure you have the correct type spark plugs installed.
2. no vacuum leaks - lose air pipes
3. Check the Oxygen sensor "upstream" - remove it and see if it is sooted (black) then replace if needed.

hope this helps

P0734 Hyundai accent 2003

code p 0734 refers to gear 4--incorrect ratio===causes --wiring---TR sensor/ switch---shift solenoids---transmission mechanical fault
I would check the operation of the transmission ration sensor/switch first as that is the most likely place that the fault is
check engine lights are not solely for the engine but report on transmission problems as well
a transmission mechanical fault is the absolute last that you should consider because the transmission will revert to normal operations until it selects gear 4 which indicates sensor or solenoid problem

WHERE IS THE SERPENTINE BELT LOCATED ON A 2003 HYUNDAI SONATA

Vehicles Covered: Hyundai Sonata 2002-2004 (2.4L & 2.7L Engines)

In 2003, Hyundai produced two types of Sonata:
Available engines:
4 Cylinders 2.4L VIN "S", MFI DOHC - see Figures 1 and 3.
6 Cylinders 2.7L VIN "H", MFI DOHC - see Figures 2 and 3.

To differentiate between these types of 2003 Hyundai Sonatas, the VIN 8th digit (Engine Type) will either be "S" or "H" as in the table above.

To locate the Engine drive belt, jack up the vehicle & place it onto jack stands, then slide under the car (toss a cardboard mat down first), then, once under the car, remove the (plastic) engine splash shield. Once removed, the drive & accessory belts are easily observed.

Fig. 1 Accessory Drive Belt Routing 2.4L (4 cyl) Engine - Hyundai Sonata
The "COMPRESSOR" refers to the A/C compressor, and "GENERATOR" refers to the Alternator.

Fig. 2 Accessory Drive Belt Routing 2.7L (6 cyl) Engine - Hyundai Sonata
The Belt Routing on the Left is "With A/C", on the Right is "without A/C"

Inspection - Drivebelt and Accessory Belts

Inspect the drive belt for signs of glazing or cracking. A glazed belt will be perfectly smooth from slippage, while a good belt will have a slight texture of fabric visible. Cracks will usually start at the inner edge of the belt and run outward. Worn or damaged drive belts should be replaced.

Drivebelt Removal & Installation - 2003 Sonata (2.4L and 2.7L engines)

Raise and support the vehicle.
Remove the engine splash shield.
Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise to release the drive belt tension.
Remove the drive belt from the alternator.
Slowly release the drive belt tensioner.
Remove the drive belt from the accessory drive pulleys.

To install:

Install the drive belt to the accessory drive pulley.
Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise.
Install the drive belt to the alternator.
Ensure the drive belt is properly aligned and seated into the grooves of the accessory drive pulleys.
Slowly release the drive belt tensioner
Install the engine splash shield.
Lower the vehicle.

Here's the best illustration I can find of the Hyundai 2.4L and 2.7L engines - the drivebelt seems to be located on the passenger side of both of these transversely mounted engines.

2003 Hyundai Sonata with 4 cyl. PO301 error code. Have replaced spark plugs, wires, coil packs, and mass air flow sensor. Replaced air filter due to heavy gas smell. Car was starting after tapping gas 3...

P0301 - Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected.

Possible Causes:
- Improper spark plug at cylinder #1
- Insufficient compression at cylinder #1
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- The injector circuit is open or shorted at cylinder #1
- Fuel injector #1 may be faulty
- Intake air leak at cylinder

Possible Solutions:
- Perform Injector Service
- Replaced Spark Plug #1
- Replaced Injector #1
- Replaced Ignition Coil #1

Being you have a heavy gas smell I would look into the injectors. If injector #1 is over producing it can cause a misfire. Test your compression and fuel pressure.

Faulty sensors in my hyundai accent.

Whenever the 'CHECK ENGINE' light comes on, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). These codes identify the particular engine management system which caused the light to come on.
You'll need to use/find an OBDII (On-Board Diagnostic) Scanner to retrieve any code which have been stored in the ECU computer. Afterward, we might be able to help you DIAGNOSE and perhaps eventually fix the problem.

2003 Hyundai Accent with Engine skip...error code P0300 P0301

I have seen coil packs go bad on several Hyundai Accents, the coils will do exactly what they are supposed to (hence your check with an ohm meter), however, the coils short through the outer casing. Try running the car when it is dark out and spraying the coil packs with water. Listen for clicking and watch for arching from the coils to any metal around them. Look for abnormal detonation marks in the outer casing. My guess is you just need a set of new coils. If the Problem is worse in the rain then you have found your problem. Remember, If your car has been misfiring (as noted by the engine codes you listed), the EGR valve can become clogged and damage can be done to your catalytic converter as unburned fuel detonates inside it (keep an eye out for O2 codes in the future). Also, your new plugs can become fouled, be sure they are clean once you fix the problem. Checking your plugs can also be a useful indication of which cylinder is misbehaving.
