Towing help on 2005 GMC Sierra 1500

I need additional rear end weightsupport for my 2005 GMC Sierra.
I am doing quite a bit of towing and the rear end suspension of my 2005 GMC sierra seems really soft and weak. (I know, i should have gone with the HD or the 2500!) I bought the truck with a 6" lift already on it and the rear of the truck is lower than the front of the truck even when the truck is empty.

What is the most effective and economical way to solve this problem?? I have been given advice ranging from new leaf springs, to adding leaf springs, to air bags, to air shocks, to simple additional support leafs from the towing section of an auto parts store. Question 2 is where do I get it?

Thanks for the advice!!!!

All these choices are great, prices are all about the same $250-$350 parts, go to any R V store or dealer and most can install, any off road shop will be able to do this aswell if you dont feel comfortable doing

You really, really want a suspension specialist. Look in the yellow pages. You want a place that not only sells stuff but installs it. The kind of place that puts new springs in trucks, esp bigger trucks. They'll be in a larger city. In addition, you might want to get rid of the lift kit. It is affecting your handling but that's not your real problem, just a thought. Perhaps even, the guy who installed the lift kit moused the rear suspension, otherwise it would not be lower now. I suspect you have even less suspension than the truck came with.

2007 gmc electric towing brake code on

It sounds like the brakes need some work done. I would suggest talking to a mechanic or a tow company to see if they can help you understand it. Whatever the problem is, I would definitely suggest getting it figured out sooner rather than later. The last thing you need is to have it cause a problem when you're in the middle of towing another vehicle.

Have supposedly worn out two sets of parking brakes in 8 years. Thing is I rarely engage the parking brake. Is this possible. Have 2002 GMC Sierra

Yes it is because if you have gotten 8 years out of two sets of rear break shoes you are doing well...........Emerg break is on the wear of the rear shoes............40 percent on the front and 60 percent on the front on aplication of the break.to change the application when towing u have to apply your parking break a little to change the ratio..........Hope this helps.

I recently purchased some towing mirrors for my 2007 gmc sierra 1500, how do i change my stock mirrors to these? do you have installation instructions?

Hi, the door panels need to be removed, there are 3 mounting nuts, and a wiring harness,(if mirrors are power).unhook the wire, take the 3 nuts off, and remove the old mirror.Repeat for the other side, and the mirrors should be functional.Good luck...
