SOURCE: 2000 Volkswagen Jetta TDI WITH NO POWER

find your local vw service center and see if they can plug their computer in to see if there are any codes on the cpu. there may be one for an intermitent for the turbo. i ran into the same problem last month and it was the turbo veins are sticky so occasionaly it lack power going up hills. it did not cause the check engine light to come on, but there was a code on the cpu when they checked it. if it happens again while you are driving, pull over, shut the car off for 10-30 secs then restart it and see if it makes a difference. when it happened to me i called my guy and thats what he had me do and it was like a new car after that.

SOURCE: volkswagen jetta over heating

hi tammy
it could be an air lock stopping the water from circulating properly i seem to recall this problem on the older VW Derby and audi 50 (same engine) there is a small bleed screw at the highest point on the cooling system that allows you to bleed this air out youll find its location in the manual

another thing to try is put a flushing agent through the system incase there are any blockages in the radiator itself

hope this helps

1.1 mm is the standard gap for a platinum tipped plug. Plugs for this car usually come pre-set but it's always worth checking before installing. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: 1998 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Vehicle will not start/Clutch?

You have an interlock switch on the top of the clutch pedal. Is it out of adjustment? This will prevent the starter from cranking.

CHECK MODEL NUMBER OF ONE YOU ALREADY HAVE IN CAR, OR BETTER STILL BUY A MANUAL FOR YOUR CAR AND LOOK UP ANY FUTURE PROBLEMS THAT WILL ACURE.

could be the ignition coil (you can check for a spark on the ignition coil by holding the power cable coming out of the ignition coil close to an unpainted metal part of the frame. if the ignition coil has spark, then change your spark plugs (if the tips look burnt, crusty or oily), spark plug wires and distributor/coil packs.

Where is starter on a 2000 TDI Jetta w/manual trans located and do you have to get to it from under the car?

Starter is on left side of car from drivers seat. You have to remove the sound deadening panel from underneath and then you should see the starter, low on the trans toward the front of the car. The lower bolt is easily accessable. VW wants you to pull the battery and battery tray to reach the top bolt but can be done from underneath easier. DO DISCONNECT the battery so you do not arc anything. Good Luck.

2000 Jetta TDI: How do I change spark plugs on 2000 VW jetta 2.0...

You're in the TDI (diesel) solutions section so it uses glow plugs.
If it's a petrol engine 2.0L then it would be accessible above and below intake manifold using a swivel spark plug deep socket.

2000 vw tdi. My glow plugs only stay on a couple seconds...

I have same problem either glow plug circuit relay or power signal from main computer faulty. Could also be bad wireing harness they are notorious for this. We put a larger battery (higher cca) in to compinsate for excessive cranking a year later were changing the starter it seems summer comes and we blow it off till its noticable again. If you fix exact problem please let me know what it was if possible. GOOD LUCK and Thanks!
