Question about 1999 Chrysler Town & Country

1 Answer

I have a "97 Town and Country Van. The air conditioner is not working. It blows hot air. I have had it tested 3 or 4 times for leaks, and the mechanics can not find the leak. They all said that it may be the evaporator coils. There is one in the front and one in the back. The dash board has to be removed to get to the front coil. I'm not sure how they will reach the rear. I asked if the mechanics if they could test the coils first to tell which one needs replacing. They all said it had to be taken apart first to get to the coils. This is an expensive job $500 - $700. I do not want to spend this kind of money and find out that the coils are not the problem. Can any one please help? Thanks

The heater in my 2005 chrysler town and country mini van blows heat then turns cold

Make sure your radiator is full of coolant, if it is low the heater core cant get enough hot coolant in it to keep the air warm. If that's not the poroblem it could be a problem with your air exchanger that switches from hot to cold which could be a vaccume line leak. But I bet you're just low on Coolant.

Should radiator hoses be easy to squeeze

I have an older Chrysler Town and Country but I had the same problem, I found mine to be a leaking radiator, check all of your hose connections and if you have the flimsy plastic radiator in your van, get the more expensive aluminum version. The plastic radiator melts at the bottom because the are required to be grounded and sometimes this is not done properly, therefore sending an electric current through the radiator melting out the bottom, went through three of these before anyone let me know that they had to be grounded. If there are no leaks under your radiator or hoses, the next thing I would check is your cylinder head the burning smell could be dripping from your head to your exhaust. I would say you have a nice sized leak some where because with these vans if you do not have enough coolant in them they will not produce hot air fill your radiator up with more coolant and then test your heater, it should work but until you find the leak I would make sure to keep extra water/coolant inside the van.

Heat ...ac 2000 town and country

Sounds like more than one issue. 17 year old Chrysler, so it is not a surprise. Blend door actuator, HVAC power head are possibilities. If this is still powered by vacuum lines, they could have leaks at this age and nothing will work right. This all could require dash removal of various degrees to test and repair.

My 2006 Chrysler Town and Country Limited has an air conditioning issue that even the dealership cant figure out...With the AC on and circulating and the van running it will begin blowing cold then all of...

your clue that it is ridiculously hot indicates that the problem is in the climate control module
it indicates that it is cycling the thermostat or you have a faulty thermostat that is cycling the climate control module
take it to an accredited ac specialist shop for a proper diagnosis

2002 Chrysler Town & Country air conditioner only blows out hot air. Filled it with freon, but did not help. What else could be wrong with it?

How do you know it needed freon, without gauges its hard to know, most people add freon because its not cold and that may not be the problem, in turn they cause more damage to the system, these vans are famous for leaks.check all the fuses, then jump the low preasure cycling switch and see if compressor truns on,youll need to look at the clutch to see it turn, then the next step is to check the lowside and highside preasures,

AC works fine but water drips on passenger side

this is normal, water is the condensation leaking out,but if leaking inside the van then the drain is pluged up, the drain is on the pass/side outside the van on the firewall, blow air into drain or stick a coat hanger in to hole until water leaks out,

My 1996 Lincoln Town car heater works but you cannot control the temperature and the air conditioner blows out hot air when turned on.What could be the cause of this problem?

To fix the AC unit which blows hot air all the time. Seems like you have a small leak in the system or the AC compressor has gone out. Suggest you try recharging the unit. Make sure you have the correct R-22 or 134A freeon. If this work for a few days then have the leak fixed, if this doesn't work replace the compressor. Check Ebay for the compressor i obtained one for $100.00. Cost $450 at Auto Zone.

The speedometer quit working on a 2001 town and country. I replaced the output sensor, but it still doesn't work. The check engine light is not on.... Any suggestions???

Try pressing the trip odometer reset button for 5 seconds. It will flash2.gif an error code. Then the odometer lights will flash, a bunch of error codes2.gif flash. Let it finish.

I found this on fixya before, and it worked for my van. I didn't replace anything.
