The common cause of this is the system has a refridgerent leak and the charge is low, when the charge is low the system will not engage the compressor.repair the leak evacuate the air and recharge the system

A/C compressor not coming on 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis

The first thing to do is check the connector at the AC compressor to see if it has power whwen the system is turned on. Then check the pressure switch as well for power in and out.

I have a 1999 Grand Voyager. Whenever it rains, the serpentine belt comes off. What's the problem and solution?

Ok..that is a strange one.. I am going to hazard a guess and suggest you look to the AC compressor.

When you run the defroster the ac compressor comes on..typically whenever the outside temp is above 40 degrees.. the ac compressor kicks in to dry out air inside.

Often when it rains.. the windows fog.. you turn on the defrost.. the ac compressor tries to come on.. and.. there ya go.. rather there your serpentine belt goes.

Several things could cause this.. worn belt.. failing belt tension-er... or failing ac compressor..

If the ac compressor is frozen meaing it will not turn..when the electric clutch on the front engages.. it would cause the pulley to stop turning.. and the belt would have a hard time staying on a non rotating part.

Or if the belt tension-er is bad..or the belt is worn.. when the additional load of the compressor kicks in.. it jumps off.

Finally it could be a combination of all three..

Best of luck..

Charged a/c system no leaks compressor would not kick on held 30 minute vaccuum checked for leaks replaced condensor due to hitting a coon could not find low pressure switch to jump to kick compressor on

turn ac on with engine running check for power at the compressor if there isnt check for power at the low pressure switch if there is jump out the connection
the compressor should turn on the low pressure switch is usually located on the accumulator canister (SILVERY CANISTER) near the firewall.

My compressor wont kick on 2007 Grand Prix

You could remove the relay for the compressor, then with a jumper wire, put one end on a positive voltage source and the other in one of the relay terminals.

My pontiac vibe Ac has stopped working..it started taking a long time to kick in ...now it only kicks on for a short time if im lucky.

the clutch on the ac compressor is going out.

replace the ac compressor (when you push the a/c button it should imidiately kick the compressor on).

also check the connection on the compressor, along with the fuses.

you should be adding the 134a to the system the low pressure switch is doing its job by not allowing the compressor to kick on, it wont kick on until there is enough 134a in the system to be above the preset pressure for the low pressure switch.

make sure you compressor is kicking on. find you a/c compressor. there should be a gear on the front of it. DO NOT touch it. turn the a/c on high and max look at the gear see if it kicks on and off.
Just DO NOT get your hand in the way just incase the gear does kick.
