Whether there's a chip( you mean an integrated electronic?) stuck inside the key drum, you will still need to change them all if you lost your key.
most difficukt part is accessing the ignition drum; taking it out is easy when you get there. you will also need to change the door and trunk keys as well.
You will definitely need some elbow grease if you intend to do it yourself( it is not impossible, but it is complicated accessing the locks- removing panels etc; especially in a luxury car)

Changed the battery on 2001 AudiA4, 1.8t, won't start now

So you changed the battery in the key? and this is the problem i suspect that you have lost the chip out of the key when you took the key apart to change the battery ,dont worry its happens to the best of us the phone rings or you get distracted -if you have lost the chip then try the spare key if you do not have one call the dealer and have a spare key and a new chip in your key programmed up-

S40model 1998 lost keys needs to replace

hi, my8, you can use the key programmer to copy a new key,for your car I know SBB key is a good choice. Before running SBB key programmer, you need insert the blank new key into your car keyhole;turn on ignition switch;Insert SBB 16-pin interface into your car OBD2 diagnostic seat. SBB key programmer copies chip according to car model.

I have lost my keys to my 1991 pontiac firebird my key has the chip in it for the anti thft system is the a way to bypass the security system so I can replace the lock with a standard ingition lock

there is a way I've seen it done but never have done it myself. That "chip" is like a resistor for the anti theft system. When I asked the guy how he bypasses it, he stated, "I find the correct resistance needed, then add a resistor in line so that it bypasses the ignition switch." This way the orginal keys will work even if they don't have the "chip." Now the vechile he did that on he still had the key with the chip. The chip or ignition cylinder wasn't contacting each other so it would sometimes run and sometimes wouldn't. So I don't know if he tested the key or if there is a different way. I know this isn't much help but I KNOW it can be done.

I lost my keys to a 97 Bonneville i need to know how to remove the old one and replace it with the new myself. Keith

DEALERSHIP HAS TO REPLACE KEYS BECAUSE MOST LATE MODEL CARS AND NEWER CARS KEYS HAVE CHIPS AND SENSORS ON THEM THE PCM READS THE KEYS BEFORE IT LET CAR CRANK.THE KEYS HAS TO BE SPECIAL MADE.THE HARDWARE STORES LIKE LOWES AND HOMEDEPOT CANT MAKE NEW KEYS BECAUSE THEY WILL BE PLAIN KEYS WITH NO CHIP AND SENSOR ON THEM.IF YOU TRY IT.YOUR PCM WILL SHUT DOWN YOUR CAR FUEL PUMP AND STARTER MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO CRANK CAR.

Lost key

i was reading up on the process of coding the key to work on the miata... it's abit time consuming.... not that bad tho.... but i believe you have run int a monopoly type thing. and you need a key with the chip as it has an immobilizer (anti theft device).

Lost key for a 1995 pontiac boneville, how do i go about replacing that key. hubby said it has a computer chip in it and cannot go around to start auto PLEASAE HAELP ME :)

it does not have a chip in it, it does have a piece of resistive wire embedded in it near the base/key head, u need to measure the resistance of that wire on the spare key to get the right one, there are about 20 choices. let me know the resistance and i will look it up.

Lost car key

Yes it is a coded key, the problem is without the resistance value of the original key (the little piece of resistive wire embedded in the key shaft) you will have re-program the system to the new key value. The keys will run about $20 US each and the programming about 1/2 hr or $50. Do yourself a favor get two keys done.
