1995 Buick Riviera

How do I remove the shifter knob from the floor shifter of a 1995 Buick Riviera. Is there a clip underneath the shifter button that holds the shift knob on?

Most likely it's threaded on. Pull the selector all the way down, First gear. If there are any screws they will be visible then. If not, twist off

SOURCE: broken steering wheel on 1995 buick riviera

I am assuming that you have a broken tilt bracket in your steering column. I just changed one Last Friday. You will need a few special tools (steering wheel puller, steering shaft spring compressor and a pivot pin removal tool. You can rent some of these. You will also need a 1/4" drive ratchet with extension and female torx bits. Look up on line or buy a book to take you through the process. Remember to disconnect the battery and wait for 10 minutes before beginning. This will keep the air bag from giving you a 200 mile per hour surprise. I bought a set of dealer manuals for 35.00 on Ebay last week to guide me. It will take you about 3 hours at least. This narrative should help you to decide if this is something you want to do at least.

SOURCE: 1995 Buick Riviera SC: traction and the security light

traction switch is located next to drivers left knee on bottom of dash....you should be able to turn off the traction light there by just turning on the traction control.....the security light is telling you that there is a problem with your security system....could just need a new key with a new computer chip....make sure the key is clean and dry when using so it can read the chip....the security light comes on whenever your start the car and stays on for approximatley 2 minutes and then should go out....it is just a reminder....try this and see if it works....lock the door using the power switch on door.....close door and see if the security light comes on....watch and it should go out after about 2 minutes...if it does then your alarm is activated and working....to disarm you need to unlock the driver door with the key...anything else will set the alarm off and the lights will start flashing and the horn honking...after you set the alarm off you will always have to use the key to unlock the drivers door to turn off the alarm and reset the security system.

1999 isuzu rodeo=auto transmission

Those run through the floor. You will have to remove part of the shifter console to get to the cable. It has removeable fork clips that release the cable from the floor shifter. The tranny has those same clips that run to the transmission parking pawl(an arm off the side of the tranny that allows the tranny to be shifted). This is not easy to do and you will need patience.

Won't shift out of park

My Riviera would do the same thing. Turned out that the Brake-Shift interlock solenoid was gummed up/bad. I ended up just removing it and just being careful to put my foot on the brake pedal like my truck from the 60's.

Shifter on 95 buick riviera stuck in park

There is a "park lock cable" located in the steering column that releases the shifter after the ignition switch is turned to the on position. There is also a BTSI (brake trans shift interlock) solenoid that also releases the shifter when you press on the brake pedal. One of them is not functioning, are you able to turn the steering wheel after the car is started?

Broken shifter cable, how do i repair it

Put park brake on or block wheels, and shift into neutral (if possible), If not go to tranny and pop the cable off the tranny lever (pry off with screwdriver). Turn tranny shift lever, until it clicks twice, leave here for later adjustment. Follow the cable to the adjuster, pull out the flat steel retainer clip, pinch the sides to remove cable from bracket. Remove upper covers below the steering wheel. Remove kick panel below steering colomn. Remove cable from steering wheel shifter assembly (pry off and remove clip same as at tranny). Remove the side kick panel and follow cable along floor. You may find it easier to remove the driver seat (4 nuts on floor and wiring). Pull cable thru floor and replace. Reverse procedure to install. Lock the cable and clip at steering colomn, but leave the clip off at tranny. The tranny should still be in neutral. Now turn key to run and shift the shifter into neutral. At the tranny side cable there is a white square button, press in and lock cable to lever. install retainer clip. move shifter thru ranges and ensure it locks in park. Readjust if needed by pressing button and moving shifter lever on tranny.

Hi im having problems with the shifter button on the shifter sticking causing problems with ignition key and shifting, didnt now if it was safe to put some penetrating spray or didnt know if it would help?...

Of course I'm not there but sounds like the shifter position switch is dirty or failing.
There is a metal U shaped clip that holds the shift knob on, it faces the dash use a small pick to pull it out toward the dash, the knob then pulls straight up and off, you could put some lithium grease down that tube with a tooth pick but not really needed
It is probably junk and dirt inside the shifter knob once removed you can wash is or soak it, becareful if you got the super charger switch in the knob use compressed air to help remove excess water and let dry before reinstall
I recommend going to a "U-Wrench-it lot"
and practice removing the console to gain access to the shifter and wiring. be careful with the console it has many weak connectors, well they dont like to come apart and go back together.
as far as lubrication you will only need a Q-tip and a little grease to lube the shifter where things rub on each other.

the only other thing it might be is the Body Controll Module

base on my research for my 2001 Used Buick regal
the Body Control Module is a weak point on this car, mine is Glitchy and so are many others I've read about.
I dis-connect the battery frequently but doing so resets the oil timer the tire monitor and the saved engine values also record your radio code before you do this. I have an after market radio
