Question about 2006 Cadillac CTS

1 Answer

Having issues with my brakes.

I have had the worst time trying to get my brakes done right, by the dealership and private mechanic. First the brakes started making rubbing nosies and then on the dash broad a message that said Brake Service Assistant. I was just driving it tonight and got T/C and ABS lights came on. Please advise me if you can about what needs to be done about these brakes, on my 2006 CTS Cadillac.

Will probably be caused by either a wheel speed sensor or abs module fault.

Here I go again. My wheels on my 2003 Grand Cherokee has started burning again. What is the problem?

abs modulator, is bad. sad how your shops don't do tests. To find this... your brakes are dragging, so, what cause that? abs or master cylinder issues. has someone messed with there of the master cylinder, the rear piston clearances? above the pedal. I'd find a real ASE shop or top brake shop in town. tell them brakes drag and your story.'

one caliper all by self can drag,
say the guide pins seize or piston.
sound like its no just one brake dragging
but a real shop tests and proves all that.

Why would my 2005 Audi A4 Quattro brakes heat up on the right side only

Failure to perform the proper brake work

No rust removal, pads not fitted properly, so they fail to move
correctly
No lube what so ever, that is almost a given, at any shop & a reason
to do all your own work

Not bleeding the system

ABS System issues

NOT road testing-- before you got it back.Another never done issue,
with almost all shops

Bottom line; sloppy work, hang the pads & run to the next job

What is an appropriate price for a front brake job from the dealership and/or a private mechanic? Car has 42,600 miles on it.

Dealership, way to much. Garage, if you just need pads, then as little as a $100.00. But they will always find some thing else wrong and it will cost you $300.00

Question to Toyota Ed: How would you explain Toyotas with Sudden unintended acceleration in cars that have the Denso pedal in them? I have heard that Volkswagen Jettas are also using the Electronic...

Hello, Zman777.

According to the material provided by Toyota, the Denso pedal does not have the alleged acceleration issue.

Also, according to information that has been provided by Toyota, the alleged acceleration issues is being caused by two possibilities;

One is additional placement(s) of floor mats on top of the factory floor mat. The extra mats are not secured, and can move around the driver side footwell, and, in the worst case scenario, move on top of the accelerator pedal, and trap in into the 'applied' position. I myself have experienced this mat/entrapment issue during a road test.

The other possibility is that certain accelerator pedal mechanisms may mechanically stick in a partially depressed position or slowly return to the idle position. Over time, the internal mechanism in the accelerator pedal my become worn. As a result of this wear, combined with certain operating and enviromental conditions, friction in the mechanism may increase and intermittantly result in the accelerator pedal being hard to depress and/or slow to return or, in the worst case, stick in a partially open position, increasing the risk of a crash.

In short, according to what we have been provided, the issue is mechanical, not electrical. The modification that Toyota dealerships are performing rectify this issue, and, this modification has been approved by the NHTSA.

Nowhere has it been found that the vehicles with the alleged acceleration issue have 'accelerated' without warning, as in sitting still, and the car is suddenly going 100 mph. None.

What 'could' happen, if the pedal 'was' sticking, is, in my opinion, an 'Unexpected Non-Deceleration' condition.

If you were going 15 mph, and the alleged issue appeared, when you let off of the gas pedal, the car would continue at 15 mph, and NOT accelerate to 100 mph, as has been falsely mentioned in the media.

Regarding VW, sorry, I cannot comment on VW, or any of their systems, I am not a certified VW mechanic.

I hope that this info helps you out.

Right tail light on 2006 mustang remains on after car is shut.

Hi, I have the same issue with my 06 GT. other lights have done the same thing. of course the dealership says if they cant duplicate the problem, they cant do anything. I did talk to another mechanic at a "good" shop and he said it sounded like the BCM module ( body control module). I may put a new one in and see if that fixes it.

The dealership service dept. told me I needed new brake rotors+.

I checked autozone site, front rotors 1.020 thousandths rear .300. Yes, I agree, I wouldn't want them near my car. Of course, you're stuck because of trans warranty etc. An extra hour labor for a seized nut is ridiculous. These are so called 'professional' mechanics. This could take extra time, but 5 minutes, not 1 hour. If the fix goes extra easy, does the dealership drop the price? Of course not. At least not yours anyway! If u just replaced the brake pads, why do they say u need a brake job? I always have my rotors turned, but many people don't if they look good, and haven't gone metal to metal from former brake job. U need to go to micrometer reading at thinest wear point of rotor. If your brakes were pulsating, pulling, etc, the dealership could make a big deal about the rotors, but putting pads on rotors that are worn to approx. limit , but in good shape as far as wear and grooving, is not an issue here. I think u should try and find another dealer, or private garage for the future (good luck). When a tie rod is replaced, the # of turns tio remove it (from threaded sleeve) should be counted, and new one installed same # of turns to get to as close as possible to former alignment specs. It is a good idea to have alignment done again, as if it was a bit off before, it will be corrected to specs, so I do agree w/ the alignment of the car. Let me know how u make out.
