Question about 2002 Mazda Tribute
When driving for a period of time during hot weather, my steering wheel starts making squeaky noises when driving and turning as if it needs oil but you only hears it when the car is hot from weather outside
Check and lube the nylon bearing in the rubber boot at the bottom of the steering cloumn inside the car. Use WD40 or thicker silicone lube

Take a peak under your van. Check your sway bar bushings. Those like to wear out on those vans. It it's a high pitched squeal, there are bearings that the steering shaft rides on. Those might be squeaking on you. If you remove the lower panels on the driver's side, you can spray a good lubricant on the shaft bearings and it may quiet the sqeaking down.

I have frequently run into this problem. The "clock spring" in the steering column has a plastic case (shrinks when cold/expands when temperature warms up). It's a design flaw, not a defect. Replacing the clock spring usually eliminates the noise for awhile, but eventually it returns. It's one of those things that drives some people up the wall, but others just ignore it.

SOURCE: Squeaky steering wheel?
Try using some type of lubricant on the pass through on the fire wall. If you look down under the dash by the break peddle you will see where the steering shaft goes through the firewall. Get a litium grease to spray between the shaft and the rubber groumet that it goes through. Not a whole bunch but enough. spray it a little then trun the wheel back and forth then do it again.
This should solve the problem, If it's the noise that I have been encountering lots at work.
