Question about 2005 Chrysler 300

Exhaust system rattling on 2005 300C. 58,000 miles!

When I sometimes go from backing out of the drive way and then going forward it sounds like the duel exhaust is making a low growling noise. This also happens when I go too excel when going around corners! Do these exhaust systems have resinator's in the muffler system that can go bad? My car dealer tried too tell me it's just the dual exhaust but I think it's something in the system itself! These cars weren't made too sound like a stock car! Thanks!

Too me it does sound like metal vibrating on metal! I had the car serviced at the 1st 2,000 miles and they said all the clamps and exhaust system were tight! I got the owner of the dealership too drive the car and of course then the noise didn't happen! I have an extended warranty so i'll get it taken care of. Thanks!

You have a loose heat shield or a broken rubber mount.

jack your car up make sure you put some thing under need like a jack stand ( just for safety) and manually shake your muffler usually rattling noises are cause when metal rubes metal.

Have the exhaust system checked, that would be the most common source of a rattle.

Heat shield rattling noise engine

Go to a a large hardware store and buy 2 band clamps that will fit around the heat shields and clamp them tight. This is the manufacturers approved fix for heat shield rattle. The fix sure beats the $1000.00 for a new catalytic converter assembly. I have done this fix dozens of times over the years of my car repair career.

Rattling noise back car

95% sure its your heat shield over your muffler, other causes could be, shocks or struts, exhaust system or muffler loose.

I have to add oil between oil changes, I can't find any leaks and don't smell burnt oil. Also my truck only has 58,000 miles, where's the oil going?

How many miles are you doing per top up ml?

it is nt uncommon to have to top up by half a litre of oil or so between servies. Also the harder you drive the car the more oil it will burn as there is more crankcase wear and also more heat produced. If there is no leak its burning it im afraid, there is no other explanations

My manuel trans. 2001 for focus has a rattle sound and vibrates a bit when starting. It seems to go away after it warms up a bit, but it is getting progressively worse and the vibration is lasting lon

I had a 1984 Mustang 4 cylinder that match the symptoms of your Ford Focus. I found that it was the core inside the catalytic converter had broke up and started to rattle. Not saying this is your problem but a possibility. Another possiblity, exhaust bumping the body of the car.
The wer wer wer sound you hear going over uneven ground is probably not related to the other mentioned. It sounds like the four wheel independent suspension adjusting to the terrain. Cool temperatures help promote this noise due to rubber bushing that your vehicle has in the suspension areas. Annoying, but considered normal. Hope this points you in the right direction and helps. Let me know what you found. Later, Todd

My 2003 Ford focus is making a rattling sound by the driver side in the engine when I go over a bump or pot hole what could this be?

There are a number of things which can do that. If someone did not properly fasten the aircleaner down it will rattle. You can get a rattle out of the shielding for your Catalytic converters and sometimes gravel will get caught in the shielding and rattle with every bounce.

There is a good possibility the rattle is your front brake pads which is why they make a compound to glue the pad to the caliper. To check this, just lightly hit the brakes enough to make the calipers work and if the noise is reduced or stops, then that is your problem. Do this when going over the bumps and potholes.

Another possibility is the joint from the exhaust header to the Catalytic pipe. There is a round metallic gasket usually called a "donut" which can work loose with engine vibration. This will sometimes chirp when you go to Reverse and back to a forward gear.

I hope one of these will solve your problem.

Back passenger rear wheel is locked

It sounds more like your rear end has a bad bearing or a bad pinion gear. If it has high miles it may be time for a rebuild. It could be brake related also, take off the back drum and see if anything is rattling around in there or broken. If your not hitting the brakes they shouldn't engage.

rattling when doing what? if it rattles when it is running or when it is driving, this will tell you roughly where to look. If rattling while idling, coming from engine or transmission. If you ONLY hear it when you are driving, check you U joint. they can wear out and start to rattle and clunk sometimes, especially when going in and out of gear...reverse to drive etc...

Noise ... raddle

When the engine is cold, go under the car and try to shake the exhaust system at the approximate spot you hear the rattle coming from. It is most likely a heat shield for the exhaust, or a broken (rusted through) hanger for the exhaust making the noise you describe. You can probably correct it with a wire or couple of screws to secure the shield, or replace a hanger.
