Question about 1992 Mazda MX-3

1 Answer

My Mazda mx3 starts up idles for a couple seconds then dies.

It starts right up, idles fine then dies after a couple seconds. If you touch the accelerator it dies instantly. I think it's a fuel problem. If you try to start it again right away it won't start but if you turn the key to "on" for a coupe seconds (giving the fuel pump a chance to run) before you try to start it, it fires right up... then dies again.  It ran fine yesterday, today... this. It did this a couple days ago but it finally kept running then was fine for a few days. Any ideas? Fuel pump? Fuel pump relay?

Before you replace the fuel pump, I would check the cheaiper parts first. Such as fuel filter and injectors.

1992 Mazda MX3 is sweeking when I turn car on...might be some sort of belt but I'm not positive.

Sounds like the belt, you're right on track. Check the belt(s) and replace if neccesary. If belts are fine, check for tightness. Should be about a 1/4" flexibility when you push down on them. If all is ok, belt dressing should take care of the problem.
Now, if for some reason, one of the components that run off the belts may be going bad, specifically a/c compressor. If it's starting to lock up, it will make your belt squeal and finally snap.

Mx3 idle

your throttle body is dirty and needs to be cleaned- also, you might want to check the spring and the various parts on the throttle itself for wear and tear.

the intake for air and the flutter wing could also be hanging up inside the air intake
