After looking at the switch bracket I found that it was that along with the plug that plug into the switch was make a short. I electrical taped the switch in place that solved that but I'm going to have to get a new plug assembly. Thank you for the point in the right direction.

SOUNDS TO ME THAT THE BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE SWITCH IS NOT HOLDING IT IN PLACE, THE SWITCH KEEPS MOVING IN ITS BRACKET, YOU EITHER NEED A NEW BRACKET OR FIGURE A WAY TO HOLD IT IN PLACE.

Does the brake switch also operate the high mount brake light

Hi,
Get the original bulb for that 3rd brake light from the dealer parts center.
Tell them( parts dealer center ) the model of your vehicle and they will provide necessary part.

Hope that helps!

Hello, Well there is not much more it could be unless you have a shorted wire or a burned fuse. I would normally think that the turn signal canceler was bad but the 3rd brake light will still work if that is bad so I would check all fuses and for bare or shorted wires.

Brake lights do not work. cannot find the fuse but I do not see any fuse blown. Hazard, turn and running lights work. Third brake light works.

if the 3rd brake light works, you know the brake light switch works. not to state the obvious, but have you replaced the bulbs?

3rd. left brake light is out replaced it and still doesn't work

You may need a signal light switch.
If your brake and signal use the same bulb, the brake light power is directed through the signal light switch.
Dodge has had problems in this switch with this exact problem.

Brake lights don't work on my 04 dodge durango

get yourself a cheap multimeter from a store like radio shack etc. with someone pressing the brake check at the socket to see if you have any power. remember it is DC volts not AC.. if you dont have any power check the grounds, there are a few, under the truck, and under the hood by the engine,if that doesn't work, you can try popping the rear covers off at the back and you might have loose wires, give a light tug on the wires and see if any pull away from the body.... look close at the bulb plug, you can also have a loose wire there or a broken ground tab... hopfully this can help you... if you have any more of a problem let me know...
