Question about 1987 Mercedes-Benz 300-Class

1 Answer

1987 Mercedes 300e I got a couple of problems really

I got a couple of problems really, the remote locking works fine to lock the car but when i try and open it the front locks pop up then go back down again and have to use the key to open (which still works fine) also for the past two years if i have driven over 80 the transmission fluid blows out. Taken it to get looked at over and over again and they keep telling me they cant find a problem and recentley it started happening at 65. If anyone can help at all it would be much appreciated.

well it covers the whole of the underneath of the car when it does, so im guessing it wouldnt be the dipstick tube? unless that may have a hole in it somewhere?

wher does the trans fluid blow out of the breather or the dipstick tube- it sounds like the breather is clogged.

Replace the breather at the top of the bell housing and service your transmission

There really is not much else that would cause an intermittent leak that is heat related on an automatic trans. The pressure is building up and forcing clogged fluid out the breather, as far as your central locking issue-your central locking is vacuum operated by a pump located under the rear seat cushion. It has input from micro switches located in the key tumblers at both front doors and your trunk lid. I would open my driver's door and you will see a black plastic cover on below the grab handle on the sriker panel of the door. remove that cover and you will find a 3 pole electrical connector-take an ohm meter and make sure it is showing continuity in both positions of the lock actuator. You can replace just the micro switches if necessary also you may find the tumbler loose because the roll pin that drives the actuator arm fell out-you will see what i'm talking about easiest with the door panel removed. I just felt that your transmission issue was more of a priority but I hope I have been helpful.

No, I would say your starter may be going out. Also tune up (coils especially) should be done before any real troubleshooting.

How to install a waterpump on a 1987 mercedes 300e ?

First of all, remove the water hose pipes, unclip radiator, lose the fan belt (see the tightening screw at the back of the generator), remove the fan belt (remember the sequence to reinstal), unsrew the fan bolt and take the fan off, then remove radiarot, behind the radiator, there is the water pump screwed by 6 bolts, unscrew the bolt and u will get that! Hope this will solve the problem

I have a 1987 Mercedes 300E and the A/C compressor will just shut off. When this happens power is lost to the compressor. Can you assist with what would cause this problem.

The security system keeps going off in my 1987 mercedes 300e. using the key in the drivers door doesn't work to turn it off. can i remove the fuse to disable it for now? if so, where is it located?

Probably a dirty micro switch which is built into the driver's door lock. I believe you could verify this by using the key in the passenger front door or the trunk lock. Either of these, which are used much less, should unlock the doors without sounding an alarm.

Most people unplug the alarm module which is under the floor mats in the front passenger's area. If you want to try to clean the switch, a aersol can of tuner cleaner/lube from Radio Shack, will probably restore the function of the micro switch. Mercedes is notorious for using silvered contacts that tarnish just enough to hinder continuity.

Central locks on mercedes

Hello, Mercedes fuses will sometimes fool you. You need to take a pick or very small screw driver and physically touch the wire on the fuse to see if it has a small split in it. I have had many occasions where the fuse looked good and even metered good but when an amp draw came along it would open.
I hope this helps.

Automatic door locks will not unlock

I would order a new door lock panel that goes on your driver side door, you mite be able to get a used one by looking on line. It sounds like the contacts have gone bad. I have replaced the control panel before. To fix one of these if your really trying to fix it your self is not worth the time and technical skill you need to do this. Its easier and quicker to just go to junk yard or part store and get a new one.
