Effects of broken door lock actuator

Does having a broken door lock actuator on a 2003 325xi make it so that you can't unlock the door by inserting the key?

The door should still unlock with the key.you need to remove the door trim panel and check the metal rod that goes from the lock cylinder to the latch they have plastic connectors on each end that break or come loose. if it is connected properly when you turn the key the rod will push the lever on the latch and unlock the door. they sometimes get knocked off when someone tries to break in the car with a slim jim

2005 Buick Rendezvous you can hear the relay clicking but the door locks will not open and close


Check for broke wires inside the boot from body to driver door , this is a common problem . If you don't find broke wire's , pull the door panel to get at driver door switch . Check for voltage an ground circuit .

07grandprix my door locks are all actin up sometimes they work & sometimes they dont I can set the alarm even tho they wont lock & the alarm goes off if u open the door but won't lock with the key/pad

Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections.
A factory scan tool would help for checking inputs from the door switches to the BCM ! You could do it with out scan tool , a lot more work involved ! Need a wiring diagram an a component location chart an wiring harness routing diagram !
Most intermittent conditions are caused by faulty electrical connections or wiring. Inspect for the following items:

Wiring broken inside the insulation


?€¢
Poor connection between the male and female terminal at a connector


?€¢
Poor terminal to wire connection--Some conditions which fall under this description are poor crimps, poor solder joints, crimping over the wire insulation rather than the wire itself, and corrosion in the wire to terminal contact area, etc.

Pierced or damaged insulation can allow moisture to enter the wiring causing corrosion. The conductor can corrode inside the insulation, with little visible evidence. Look for swollen and stiff sections of wire in the suspect circuits.


?€¢
Wiring which has been pinched, cut, or its insulation rubbed through may cause an intermittent open or short as the bare area touches other wiring or parts of the vehicle.


?€¢
Wiring that comes in contact with hot or exhaust components


?€¢
Refer to Inducing Intermittent Fault Conditions in order to duplicate the conditions required, in order to verify the customer concern.

Refer to Testing for Electrical Intermittents for test procedures to detect intermittent open, high resistance, short to ground, and short to voltage conditions.

2005 Chevy Impala. The door locks keep locking during drive.


It's probably a bad input to the BCM - body control module ! Have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes .
The automatic door lock function can only be enabled by the body control module (BCM) if the driver door open switch and door ajar switches are in the Closed state. For information on programming the automatic door locks, refer to Vehicle Personalization in Personalization.

Your best bet , take it to the chevy dealer . Unless you own a GM factory Tech 2 scan tool an have access to factory sevice repair info.

The outputs to the door lock actuators are controlled by the body control module (BCM). When the BCM receives a lock input from a door lock switch, or a keyless entry transmitter, it applies battery positive voltage to the door lock actuator lock control circuit, a ground to the door lock actuator unlock control, and the driver door lock actuator unlock control circuits. When the BCM receives an unlock input from a door lock switch, it applies battery positive voltage to the door lock actuator unlock control, the driver door lock actuator unlock control circuits, and a ground to the door lock actuator lock control circuit . When the BCM receives an single Unlock input from a keyless entry transmitter, it applies battery positive voltage to the driver door lock actuator unlock control circuit and a ground to the door lock actuator lock control circuit to unlock the driver door. A second Unlock input from the transmitter applies battery positive voltage to the door lock actuator unlock control circuit, and a ground to the door lock actuator lock control circuit to unlock the passenger doors.

This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTCs:
• DTC B3128 Left Front/Driver Door Unlock Circuit High
• DTC B3133 All Door Unlock Circuit High
• DTC B3138 All Door Lock Circuit High

The lock actuator is apparently bad in the driver's door or there is a broken wire to the actuator.

Front passenger door does not stay locked while driving locks when I start, but does not stay locked. 2007 CRV


If the door locks properly, it is not the actuator. It's only function is to lock or unlock the door. Something is sending a signal for it to unlock. Just like if you try to lock it with the keys in the ignition, it automatically unlocks. Maybe read through the locking options in the owner's manual.

If the driver door cylinder switch feature of the vehicle is functional, the locks may also be operated by a driver door cylinder switch lock or unlock activation.
Power Door Lock Switch Operation
Each door lock switch is wired to the body control module (BCM) through a separate door lock/unlock signal circuit. While these circuits are separated between the BCM and respective door lock switch, they are connected into a single circuit within the BCM. The BCM supplies voltage through the door lock/unlock signal circuits to each door lock switch. When either door lock switch is operated, this supply voltage is pulled to ground, providing the BCM with the required lock or unlock signal. In order for the BCM to distinguish between a lock and unlock signal, the lock switch contains two separate paths for this voltage to flow to the same body ground. When the switch is operated to the unlock position, the supply voltage flows to ground through a 1.5 K?© resistor. When the switch is operated to the lock position, the supply voltage flows to ground through a different part of the switch circuit, which has no resistor. The BCM then interprets the flow of voltage as a lock or unlock request and powers the door lock actuators to the appropriate lock or unlock position.

Open the door manually with the key!

Many Ford Escapes have power door locks as standard equipment. This system consists of a lock switch, lock actuator and wiring harness. When you depress the lock switch, it sends an electronic signal through the harness to the actuator. The actuator moves an internal piston that either pulls the actuator hook down or pushes it up. The actuator hook connects to the lock rod, which either locks or unlocks the door, depending on which way you push the lock button. While this system won't work with a dead battery, the mechanical lock system remains unaffected by electrical power loss.

Insert the door lock key into the driver's door lock.
Turn the key counterclockwise one quarter turn.
Pull the door handle up until the Escape's door opens. Once the driver door is open, simply open the remaining doors by pulling the interior door handles until the doors open.

Nissan 1990 pathfinder doors won't unlock


Door locks are powered through a circuit breaker (location not indicated) which applies 12V to the door lock timer. Insertion of the key causes the door lock actuator to unlock the door ...unless the timer prevents it. It is doubtful that all the doors could have failed lock components

2003 Explorer XLT. Driver's door lock switch does not lock, only unlocks all doors. The key fob switch works on all doors. Broken switch?


May be switch but could also be bound up linkage &/or door lock actuator. Pull interior door panel & lube up all rods, linkage & actuator with a good penetrating oil. Then watch linkage & actuator as you lock & unlock door.
