I have a 2009 vibe and this problem has recently surfaced. After driving my car and stopping a couple of times, sometimes it will not restart. it seems to catch and die immediately. If I keep trying it does the same thing. After a significant wait of maybe 20 minutes or so, I try once more and it starts. By then if I take it to the dealer, they can't read the codes so can't fix it. No trouble lights show up at this time to give us a clue.

there are 2 possibilities off the bat i could think of. first suspect would be fuel pump. they can be very intermittent with gradual progression. next common problem for this symptom would be security issues. make sure youre using genuine GM key. ck body control module for codes. code b2960 in HISTORY would indicate faulty bcm. there are also issues with invalid "passlock" data whcih is a security sensor attached to ignition switch. tricky to replace and reprogram so be careful.

The previous solution to check the idle air contol is in the correct area but needs some clarification.
The idle control is accomplished by two parts: Throttle position sensor ( $35 at Autozone) and idle contol valve approx $190. I replaced the throttle position sensor about a week ago and it runs perfect
to date but am a skeptic after almost two years of dealer incompetance. I researched all the sensors and failure symptoms on the internet and the throttle position sensor failure symptoms matched mine
exactly. See http://wiki.seloc.org/a/Throttle _Position_Sensor

My problem was the fuel pump. The one I got didn't seat in the bracket like my previous one. This caused the fuel line to lose pressure. Turn off and back on, and it was fine for a while. I put a gasket spacer between the fuel pump and the bottom of the bracket (in October) and haven't had the problem since. Hope this helps.
