I still have one of these I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT LANDCRUISER ,SINCE 1980 SEVERAL 47S AND 75 S AS WELL as 2 ---60 series and I have never had to even think about rack and pinion etc BECAUSE DONT HAVE THEM ,so you can forget about those sort of answers as the people are guessing, rack and pinion steering didnt come into landcruisers until the 100 series. So that makes it simple for you ,the steering pump is useually the problem , in australia where I live they were ,the last tme I priced one, about $ 270 exchange. any one can unbolt ,and bolt a new one on.J ust be sure tocompletely drain and renew the fluid .

It depends on the problem. If it's just the belt, that's real cheap. If it's the pump, that's not cheap (about in the lower three figures) , but ok. A steering rack (rack and pinion assembly) plus labor plus alignment is going to be a few bucks. If it's a rack you need, get some estimates in writing. You might try some independent shops, do you have a tech already that you trust?

A previous car of mine, a Fiat, had 2 settings for the steering called something like City and Normal. Below 30 mph the city mode cut in and made the steering lighter and easier for town traffic manouvres but switched off and firmed up when driving over 30.
I am not saying your car has this function, but if the city mode malfunctioned and turned off the power steering for some reason then that would make it hard to use. Might be worth investigating. I was able to turn the function off and on in a menu setting so that might be somewhere to start. Anyway, good luck with it

93 Toyota land crusier runs rough, how do I fix it

Inspect the plugs and see if any of them might have a hair line crack on the porcelain and make sure you have your wire routing correct and inspect compression on each cylinder

Cant release tension on the fan belt on a 89 jeep

i believe on this model the power steering pump is used as the tensioner. there should be 2 or 3 slotted bolts to loosen, and an adjuster in behind.

My horn quit honking on my 2006 chrysler pt crusier..

find the horn ,it should be at the front possibly behind the bumper ,run a wire direct to it and see it works ,if it does work then its the wiring in the steering wheel ,but as this vehicle no doubt has an air bag then entrust this job to a garage because if you get it wrong the air bag will explode ,expensive job to say the least
