Question about Volvo V70

1 Answer

I have had a rattle in the front end of my car intermittently. Generally starting when I drive on a rough road. Now 2 times in the past twenty four hours my volvo v70 2004 has had the engine light the abs light and the brake light go on when I go over a bump. I had it into the dealership and they told me that the module needed to be replaced, but I didn't do the work because it doesn't make sense. It does not make sense because they said there was not communication to the module, so how does it flash on when I go over a bump. Sounds like a loose connection to me any advice?

The rattle could be loose /failing wheel bearings causing the hub rotors to touch the wheel sensors for the abs and stabilitrak system
that is the only connection between the sensors and the abs unit

SOURCE: Terrible rear end rattle

It's probably the rear sway bar links. If you can jack your car up and check right behind both rear wheels you will be abale to see the sway bar which is connected to short links about 5in long with ball joints.

If either of them are broken or not connected anymore it can cause some pretty loud noises when you ride on rough roads or hit bumps. They run about $35 per link so it's not a very expensive repair.

SOURCE: speedometer intermittent and ABS/Brake light stays on

Vehicle speed sensor located on top of the rear diff at the brake line clamp a single bolt with a wiring harness. replacement from NAPA comes with a new extension harness. use grease on the terminals before assembly.

SOURCE: front end rattle

It's a loose steering column. Remove the black plastic shield under the steering wheel. Lossen the bolt that holds the two shafts together, slide them together as far as they'll go, and re-tighten the bolt. It's that simple... to stop that annoying rattle.

SOURCE: rattle under the front end?

The rattle may be stabilizer link rod bushings or a strut mount loosening up as for the engine light you must hook up a code reader to determine the problem otherwise you may be replacing parts blindly.

SOURCE: ABS, brake, trac control, service engine soon light came.

check the wiring harness, on both front wheels, it plugs into the wheel bearings, and runs along the lower control arm, sometimes it gets damaged

you have over heated the engine and the noise may be from ring failure . It may be from detonation from the fuel detonation from an extremely hot chamber. Rattle/clunk front end of a 2001 grand caravan

Front stabilizer/sway bar bushings sound worn. I had same, on my 91'. Felt like someone was thumping the floor under my feet sometimes. I managed to get away with spinning the outer ones at control arms, but replaced ones in middle at frame.
