Question about 1998 Nissan Maxima

1 Answer

Car won't start

I've concluded it's the starter, I just need to know where to find the starter under the hood. (not very car literate)

Car won't start

The problem was not your 100 dollar starter. It was your 1 dollar fuse relay. Located in the fuse box under the hood, not the box in the car. The panel in question has a lot of square metal "fuses". The inside of the lid should tell you which one it is.

Why won't it crank over?

Sounds like the starter. The faint click would be the starter solenoid, trying to operate starter. Have it tested.

The car won't start; lights, ac, radio etc come on but car won't turn over or even click; checked battery cables; put different battery in; still won't start

Check the starter and the starter relay or fuse. A client of mines car was doing the same thing, it ended up being two issues, the starter not working anymore, and a relay that was bad. If I am not mistaken everything should be labeled in the fuse box under the hood and will tell you where the fuse/ relay is for your vehicle

neutral run relay ? no such thing . park neutral safety switch on the transmission , have B+ voltage on one side if the switch is in park or neutral B+ voltage will pass through to the PCM - engine computer . If the PCM see's this B+ input it will energize the starter notor relay located in the under hood fuse / relay box . This will send B+ voltage to the S terminal on the starter solenoid . If you hear a click under the hood , an it is the starter solenoid . You could have a bad starter , or a voltage drop in the cables or battery connections . Doing a voltage drop test on the starting circuit is the thing to do first . Starter Voltage Drop You can find the starter 07 Chrysler Pacifica AWD 4 0 starter replacement yours is in the same place

How to change a starter on a 2004 nissan sentra 1.8 liter

Early to wear the starter out as most of the older cars went to the junk yard with th orginal starter! But I bet you may have starting problems.. Does it click under the hood when you tur the key? Have you tried to start in neutral? Have you taken it out of park and tried to shift back into park and then try to start the motor? Have you tried to Jump start the car?, Just because the lights and radio play doesn't mean the battery has the 10 volts theasehold voltage to close the solinoid and crank the engine!, The likly hood of the starter being bad is low as the battery and starting with low voltage will kill a starter.
