Check in your owner's manual. It should tell you how to program your locks to allow for them to unlock when the key is turned off. There are several different functions of your locks you can choose from and program them to do so.

Cant get my 99 xj8 out of valet mode, and my trunk will not open.

There are Valet keys (often with a green knob) that will
only unlock the front doors and the ignition but not the
glove box nor boot/trunk.

When either the front door locks or the console button is
pressed, all the doors should lock. Likewise, when either
front door is unlocked, all the doors fuel filler lid and if
selected, the boot will also unlock.

Boot lock has three positions. Unlocked to the left,
automatic with the doors in the center, always locked to the
right. Simply remove the key in what ever position you desire.

The locks can get confused and not work correctly. Simply
sit in the car and manually lock all the doors. That will
usually get the locking module sane again.

Neither of our remotes would unlock our doors on our 2003 Silverado Z71 the other day. So we tried by unlocking it with the key. That did'nt work either. Finally, we put the key in the lock and waited for...

TRY Relearning the remotes. to do this get in vehicle with doors closed hold the unlock button down on drivers door while you cut key on and off two or three times you should hear locks cycle and horn chirp. let go of unlock button and hold both lock and unlock button down on one key fob for 15 seconds or so you will see locks cycle move to next remote and do same. then cut key on to exit learn mode. as far as door not unlocking with key this is a problem with lock cylinder most likely.

A friend of mine has a Lexus 1997 ES and his remote control needs reprogramming. How do I do it for him. Thank you so much.

1. Driver's doo opend and unlocked, all other doors closed and locked
2. Inser Your key in ignition, don not turn, remove key
3. using the manual lock/unlock button on ther dirvers door, slowly press lock and unlock 5 times (count the lock 5 times and unlock 5 times)
4. Shut door
5 Open door
6. Using the lock/unlock button on the direvers door, slowly press and unlock 5 times (count the lock 5 times and the unlock 5 times)
7. With the door open insert you key into the ignition, turn to ON position (don't start), wait 5 seconds. Trun off and remove key.
8. Locks should cycle once (Car will lock and unlock once). If they don't cycle or they cycle more that once, do stips 1-7 over.
9. Using the remote, push lock button, hold for 1 second, release. The locks should cycle once. If not start over and go slower.
10 Close the door. Open the door. Press the lock button on the remote. The locks should cycle. Close the door. Press the lock button on the remote, the doors should lock. Press again and the doors shoud unlock.

I got this from a site called FixYa (don't have URL). It took me a few tries but it worked like a charm.

Power locks and mirrors out. Driver power window out.

Your chevy uses two fuses for the system. The power lock actuators are on the 15 amp fuse inside the truck. The fuse for the switches (locks and mirrors) are under the hood. For 99 to 04 (I think those are the years) there is a TSB on replacing the 3 amp fuse under the hood with a 5 amp fuse because this is a well known problem of having these blow.

Your drivers side window is a different issue. If the rest are working your problem is in the motor or getting power to the motor. The wires that go from the body to the door often crack and break with the opening and closing of the door.
