Question about 1996 Subaru Legacy

1992 Diamante that switches from ac to heat defrost by itself

I have a Diamante  that has a climate control system that changes randomly on it's own. It will also change the location of the vents it chooses for example I'll have it on vent/ac and it will switch to defrost heat. It also won't come on unless the fan regulating dial is set at max. Anybody out there know what is causing this? I heard it may be a vaccuum leak??

If it was a vacuum leak it would not do it intermittently, first you should replace your blower motor resistor to correct the only working on high fan speed and the reevaluate the a/c it could be affecting the climate control

Climate control switch don't work to change on defrost or floor or feet

Your AC switch is off. Anyway if the AC switch is on and the climate control is not flowing the cool or heat to any of the sides then it means that the AC nozzle is leaking and the pressure is just working into straight direction instead distributing to the switched position. It's a mechanical problem and not electrical at all

Were the fuse box at

If the heat you refer to in not heated seats but just regular heat like comes from the floor or upper vents, there is no fuse for that. The fan motor (blower) has a fuse but the heat comes from the engine. The same water running through the engine block and radiator goes through what looks a lot like a small radiator on the passenger side of the dash. Air is blown through this to provide cabin heat.

If the blower comes on but you get no heat there are two possibilities. If the climate control system in your Regal has a slide lever for temperature (cold to hot) there is a cable that connects to a water valve under the hood. Sometimes the cable slips off the valve so it doesn't move to the heat position. No hot water flows through the heater core and so you get no heat. The other possibility is if yours has electronic climate control (you usually hear small motors opening and closing damper doors in the dash when you change from defrost to AC and so forth. If it is this type then diagnosis is much more complicated and you must take it to the dealer or buy a Haynes manual for your car and go from there.

The A/C is blowing when the heater is turned on. What could be the problem

The heater/AC control is fairly complex. AC is used to defrost windows even in the winter, so not unusual to have it on. Is this a climate control system with temperature sensors or just manually controlled from dials on the heater control? Could be just the heater control is bad. If a climate control system, then we need to look at all of the sensors first.

Clicking sound from A/C

the clicking is caused by a part called a temperature control ac/heater blend door actuator motor, most likely the door it moves is sticking and the little gear drive inside the part is clicking.

If it is a mechanical switch that you turn this system works by vacume it could be the vacume supply hose coming from the intake manifold is either off or broken.

You could also have disconnected it by mistake when you changed the climate control. Good luck

It could be either..but most likely electrical.....the door motor may be bad or the head unti( a/c heat panel) could be bad or have a bad switch in it.
