SOURCE: Rough Idle on 1984 Toyota Celica Supra

You said you replaced the plugs - did you use the toyota platinum plugs? I found out the hard way that even the platinum plugs from bosch or any other kind of platinum plug just doesn't work right. Yes, they are more expensive from toyota, but they can make a difference in the way the engine runs.

SOURCE: 1985 toyota 4x4 22re missing and rough idle

Have you pulled out the spark plugs to see if there are any tell tale signs on them. They are a good indicator of many problems that occur and can save a lot of time isolating the problem. They should all be the same colour. Is the air box and lid properly secured with no leaks or splits in the intake tube.Have you put injector cleaner in the fuel tank to clear up any possible dirty injectors.Therse a few things your problem could be including engine vacuum leak which you can find by lightly spraying carburettor cleaner around suspect places such as inlet manifold and around injector seals.

sound very much like a vacuum leak.... also maybe your timing is off? possibly advanced? try retarding it with the distributor if thats the case...

Toyota celica 1992 2.2L won't accelerate

test one , all autotmatic trans is it?
1: RPM rises fast but MPH does not as normal.
2: RPM does not rise fast , bad engine.
#1 is called a slipping trans mission or will not upshift or first gear is dead.
gears mater, to go faster than 10 the tranny must upshift.
this test is simple engine weak or tranny bad.
easy as pie to detect, ask a gear head friend for advice even hands on.
what matter most is RPM it hit doing that. 2000 , 3000 ,4000/?
If RPM goes really wild over 10mph that is bad transmission
and more tests ask

I have a 2002 Celica GT 5-Speed and I shift at about 4k RPMs when getting on the highway and I still feel I'm accelerating to slow. Am i doing something wrong?

Not driving a corvette? Just kidding. More details are important. How slow is your acceleration? Is it 0-60 in 8 seconds, or 20 seconds? What is redline on your car? If redline is 5K then 4000 is a good responsible shift point. If redline is 8K then shifting at 4000 is probably robbing your engine of it's torque and horsepower band. I believe the GTS model has an 8K RPM redline, the GT may be lower, but in that case, shifting at 4K is too soon for strong acceleration. Your Tachometer should have redline clearly marked. For responsible use, stay below that, maybe 10-20%. For economy stay further still, but for power you need to let the engine use it's RPMS, especially smaller and fewer cylinder engines usually don't make their power until they are half way through the RPM range and above.
