Question about 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser

Open Question

2006 PT Cruiser Check Engine Light Codes P0122 TPS and P2074 MAP

The car's check engine light comes on during normal driving and will feel like it loses almost all power and then when you try to accelerate, it sputters and sometimes dies.  Other times the light will come on and when you accelerate, the car will rev up to about 4500 rpm even if you floor the gas pedal.  The car will shake and feels like it's going to fall apart and it's not a good situation when it dies on the interstate, which has happened several times.  This cycle will last for about 1 to 3 days and will come back on, then go off, then come back on, etc.  I took it to a mechanic and they read the codes P0122 TPS and P2074 MAP.  What is the fix for this problem, either do it yourself or by a mechanic?  What is the approximate cost associated with this problem?

    Matt UK,

    Thank you very much for the input and advice. I will definitely take this to my mechanic and see what he can do. You have a great day and thanks again for the help.

    TPS = Throttle Position Sensor
    MAP = Manifold Pressure

    The fault codes are indicating an abnormal reading from one of the above sensors. This could be a fault with a sensor itself, or it could be something like a split in a rubber hose causing a loss of pressure.

    The reason that the engine is running roughly and will not rev over 4500RPM is because the engine management system has switched over to an emergency running mode to prevent possible damage. (it does this when it can no longer rely on a signal from a sensor.)

    The good news is that it is unlikely to be a major job getting it repaired, and shouldn't be too expensive as it will probably only require the replacement of an ancillary component.

    It's probably best to let a mechanic with suitable diagnostic equipment tackle the repair, otherwise you will have to work on a trial and error basis of replacing sensors (which could prove more expensive in the long run!)

    It's difficult to say what the cost would be without knowing exactly what is causing the fault, but I would not imaging that it would take more that an hour or two to repair.

    Hope this helps.

Are you sure its P2074. only asking because IM having a hard time finding it. If it was P0274 that would of been a injector issue(high voltage) on cyl. #5. if i find anything else I'll contact you.

2006 pt crusier the check engine light comes on then the car bucs and hesitate when accelerating

THe engine light is an indicator that the computer has found sensor/s out of parameters during it's continuous system checking. It is telling you to have the codes read and replace the faulty unit. By what you say the failing sensor is causing your problem

2006 pt cruiser, check engine light came on. Shortly after, gas cap light. Replaced gas cap and reset. Today bith lights came on again.

are you fueling car with key "on"? That will cause light to come on. Disconnect battery for 1 hour and this will reset "keep alive memory" and clear codes from memory. Drive car for 10 miles so computer can relearn engine parameters. It may run rough during this period.

Check engine light on and code po108

PO108 (map circuit high input) MAP is manifold absolute pressure... a sensor normally mounted on the intake. your code is suggesting a problem with this sensor, or its circuitry.

no need to replace the throttle body , and i think that you make a test before to buy any piece . disconnect the negative battery terminal few minutes, then connnect and start engine again, drive few minutes by observing the engine, if light comes again, replace only map sensor ,good luckl

2004 Mitsubishi Colt 1.1 Engine management light & code P0122

My girlfriends car has just started with the same problem, a limp home from the garage, a sleep over night and als well next day, for a while... I spoke to Mitsubishi and they have told me the TPS (throttle positioning sensor) is on the accelorator pedle assembly. There PN for this is MN125791 and its circa £88 + VAT. After exhausting all other options I may attempt this replacement and will advise the results.
