Question about 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 Club Cab

2 Answers

Hi.. My air conditioning in my Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 regular cab shuts down. The compressor will run at idle speed and blow cold air, when I run the truck at street speeds, the compressor will shut down and will not rerstart. I had a new evaporator , ac accumulator and high and low side switches installed last summer. Repair shop said it was fixed. Last summer the air would work for 10 minutes or so and then shut down. After a few minutes it would come back on. Now it just shuts down and the compressor does not come back on. I had a friend put guages on it and the charge is good. The only thing I can think of is the compressor itself, unless there is an electrical problem or switch somewhere I am unaware of. Help please... Thanks... Keith

Thanks for the help...First of all this is a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4, regular cab 5.2 liter..318 c.i. I swapped the A/C relay with the wiper relay, whitch is the same relay/number...I have the same problem...Checked all electrical connections, and also jumped out the high side pressure switch at compressor.. It still shuts down and compressor does not restart...I am thinking it is the compressor itself...Could it possibly be the A/C orifice tube??..I would hate to spend $300 on a compressor and find out that is not the problem...Thanks...Keith

Your system is low put it back on the guages and run the engine at atreet speeds 1200-1500 rpm
the low side pressure will drop below 30 psi and compressor will cut off again
check for leaks and recharge most common leaks are out of compressor front seal and hose connections mix up some soap and water and check service ports too
good luck!!

Hi,

i will check the ac relay on the fuse box, seems to be like an electrical problem, check relay and cable conections, you said the freon was fine and you raplace all main components, so i would say its the ac relay or the compresor clutch is not good.

thank you

yeah before you buy the ac compressor check the pipe and then there is nothing else either compressor cluctch or compressor itself inside

    thanks

My 2003 dodge 2500 has air condition issues.at idle it blows cold air as long as it sitting still.as soon as I start down the road and drive a few miles the air stops blowing cold.HELP

On a vehicle 11 years old, I would say
put gauges on it & then leak test it.
Most likely has a leak & is low on refrigerant
& when you move ,you put too many BTU's across
the evaporator from the cabin & it is not at 40 degress
to remove the heat

The ac in my 2006 dodge 2500 gas engined truck does not blow cold when the engine is at idle. when running normal speeds the air gets cold

start by cleaning or replacing your in cabin air filter. check to see if your AC condenser fan is turning when the AC is turned on. Make sure the front of the radiator is not clogged with bugs, mud, etc. Check AC compressor relay-make sure the compressor clutch is turning the compressor with engine at idle. lastly check for proper refrigerant charge.

2002 Dodge Ram 1500 - The heater blows cold air when it sits at idle but blows warm air when it is being driven down the road. A/C does the opposite, doesn't blow cold air when diling, but I figured this...

the heater blowing cold at an Idle and warm while driving it,is usually low coolant in the radiator, remove the radiator cap when engine is cold, fill to the top,and fill overflow tank to full,if that doesn't take care of it,check the heater hoses at an idle and see if they are both the same temp,it might be a water pump not doing its job.

Hard to start when cold. won't hold idle speed, just shuts down

make sure thortle body is clean, it also sounds like the idle air control valve is not working may need replacing, this is what hold the engine at idle, mostly when first started ,but also at other times when requested by computer to raise or lower the idle, hope this helps good luck.

Air feels cool, but not blowing enought air

I worked at a Dodge dealership for a while and 9 out of 10 times this is due to the recirculation door being broken, allowing hot air from outside to enter the cab of the truck. The dashboard will need to be removed to access the area.

Air conditioning not blowing cool air

To get the refrigerant in you have to have a technician purge the system first. Hope that helps.

I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 the air blows out ice cold for about 20 min. and then just shuts off what would cause this I put a gauge in the vent and it was blowing out 38 degrees

I have a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 club cab. I have had my a/c recharged but it is only blowing barely cold air. It used to shut down when I accelerated and blow hot air before. I don't have that problem anymore except barely cold air. Any solutions?
