Change fuel filter

MsBaller, i did request further info regarding the model vehicle in question, but to give a general answer-

fuel filters on modern cars are generally within the fuel tank, in the fuel sensor assembly at the top of the tank. on most cars, these are accessed by removing the rear seat and access panel, beneath. on pick-ups, the bed may need lifting, or the tank, dropped.

with crossover's or lower-sitting suv.s, the tank may be accessible from under the rear seats, but on a large suv, set on a truck frame, it could be like the crossovers, or like the pick-ups, where the tank must be dropped to access the top.

on antique or very low budget cars, there may be an external filter in the fuel line, either very close to the tank, or, rarely, in the engine compartment.

and on some cars, mostly during the 80's, the fuel pump could be above one of your rear wheel wells, but the filter would still likely be in the fuel level sensor assembly, at the very top of the fuel tank.

Ihave a 1991 honda civic hb and i think i"m having problems with my fuel pump .on this model can i get to the pump from the back seat of this vehicle or due i have to drop the gas tank. also whereis the...

you must remove the fuel tank. see procedure below.

The fuse and relay should be in the engine compartment relay box. Check fuses 2 and 14. The relay might be labeled PGM-FI

1988-91 MODELS

The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4. Remove the fuel tank drain bolt and drain the fuel into a suitable container.
  5. On Civic models (except CRX and Wagon) unplug the fuel pump electrical connector in the trunk. On CRX, remove the storage compartment and unplug the fuel pump electrical connector. On Civic Wagon, remove the rear seat and carefully disengage the fuel pump electrical harness.
  6. On Civic Wagon with 4WD, remove the driveshaft from the rear differential and the exhaust pipe and muffler.
  7. Remove the 2-way valve cover and fuel hose protector.
  8. Unbolt the fuel lines.
  9. Place a suitable support under the fuel tank.
  10. Remove the fuel tank strap nuts and let the straps hang.
  11. Remove the fuel tank.
  12. Remove the fuel pump mounting nuts and the fuel pump.

To install:
  1. Install the pump assembly into the tank and make sure the unit is properly sealed.
  2. Install the tank into the vehicle and tighten the strap nuts. Connect the hoses and wiring.
  3. On 4WD vehicles, connect the driveshaft and the exhaust system.
  4. Put about three gallons of fuel into the tank and test the system.

It is in the fuel tank $101.99 at Autozone. E8077 is the part number. You must drop the tank to install. Same pump for 4 or 6 Cyl.

Fuel tank removal procedure

you are correct sir. not too easy to drop. if your tank isnt too bad you can try removing your back seat, opening the tank via sending unit cap(twist to left with large pliers) and pouring in a gallon of parts cleaner.(acetone methanol toulene) let that sit for a while and drain via hand pump(no drain...genius!) i suggest dropping it. if it has sat a while there is a chance for rust. you may notice bubbles under the black paint...this is a sure sign.begin by removing your exhaust,a recipricating saw should do the trick.sorry gonna have to weld that back.drop the rear suspension by unbolting the two bolts on both sides closest to the front.put some bricks under it or something to hold it up but let it drop as far as you can. get all of the brake lines, and fuel pump ,accumulator, filter, and hoses out of your way and just pull it right out.try not to curse. easy as that.
