Is there a over the counter product to unclog a catalytic convertor?

Constanly beibg replaced on my escape, my mechanic said the catalytic convertor is going to fail, it's just a matter of when. Can anything be bought to unclog the convertor so that I will know if I really need new ones? And can I buy the part at autozone, or have to go through Ford?

Take it to an exhaust shop they will tell you whats wrong and if there is a problem they will fix it, there not a cheap fix so shop around.

SOURCE: is it true that ford escape's catalytic converter

no a dealer is not the only place that replaces these; you can do it yourself and there should be 2 of them. most of them are replaced with aftermarket ones. go to a muffler shop and they will replace them for you and you can check at an Autozone or Napa for the catalytic converters

SOURCE: Catalytic converter shot

3 front coils? Ignition coils? If the engine had a miss for a long time the excess fuel can ruin a catalytic converter.

SOURCE: Ford Escape stalling

if it's a 2005 it should have a 100,00 warrenty on it and if it's under warrenty take it to a different shop, anything could casue this including a plugged fuel filter or fuel pump going out. You need to know which it is. To get the information for recall items you can get the dealer to tell you or you can go to libary and look up consumers buying guid and see if they have it there otherwise you have to go to www.alldatadiy.com and purchase a subscrption for this car. Then look at campains or recalls interst to consumer and interst to mechanic if there is a bullitin describing your condtion it will give the bullitin item number and the date of issue. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: I have been told that my catalytic converters are

you can do it yourself it will only cost the price of the catalytic converters, first i would disconnect them and visually inspect them if you see that they look like a honey comb with no obstruction of the holes than they are fine but if you see black residue or even some melting of the material than i would replace them. hope this helps you.

2010 Buick Lacrosse 3.0 has check engine code 420/430 but the mechanic diagnostics do show show a bead catalytic convertor nor oxygen sensors. What else can it be?

The second sensor for the catalytic efficiency just looks at what's coming through. If there were no codes for an oxygen sensor then the catalyst may be going. Not unheard of. If it's going bad the code will start coming back more frequent.

How do you unclog catalytic convertor?

To my knowledge there isnt a way to unclog them, you have to replace them. The catalytic converters on the G6, run about a thousand dollars a piece, and that without installation, and theres to converters. Go on ebay, I found both of my catalytic converters for around 300 apiece, and they were brand new, by a good manufacturer.

How any oxygen sensors are on a 1999 grand cherokee laredo 4.0 & were is it/they located?

On Grand Cherokee oxygen sensor locations for 4.0 and 4.7 engines, check this diagrams...

The Oxygen Sensors (O2S) are attached to, and protrude into the vehicle exhaust system. Depending on the emission package, the vehicle may use a total of either 2 or 4 sensors.

Federal Emissions Package (4.0L and 4.7L engines):
Two sensors are used: upstream (referred to as 1/1) and downstream (referred to as 1/2). With this emission package, the upstream sensor (1/1) is located just before the main catalytic convertor. The downstream sensor (1/2) is located just after the main catalytic convertor.

California Emissions Package (4.0L engine):
On this emissions package, 4 sensors are used: 2 upstream (referred to as 1/1 and 2/1) and 2 downstream (referred to as 1/2 and 2/2). With this emission package, the rear/upper upstream sensor (2/1) is located in the exhaust downpipe just before the rear mini-catalytic convertor. The front/upper upstream sensor (1/1) is located in the exhaust downpipe just before the front mini-catalytic convertor. The rear/lower downstream sensor (2/2) is located in the exhaust downpipe just after the rear mini-catalytic convertor, and before the main catalytic convertor. The front/lower downstream sensor (1/2) is located in the exhaust downpipe just after the front mini-catalytic convertor, and before the main catalytic convertor.

California Emissions Package (4.7L engine):
On this emissions package, 4 sensors are used: 2 upstream (referred to as 1/1 and 2/1) and 2 downstream (referred to as 1/2 and 2/2). With this emission package, the right upstream sensor (2/1) is located in the right exhaust downpipe just before the mini-catalytic convertor. The left upstream sensor (1/1) is located in the left exhaust downpipe just before the mini-catalytic convertor. The right downstream sensor (2/2) is located in the right exhaust downpipe just after the mini-catalytic convertor, and before the main catalytic convertor. The left downstream sensor (1/2) is located in the left exhaust downpipe just after the mini-catalytic convertor, and before the main catalytic convertor.

2003 FORD ESCAPE IF EXHAUST IS OFF AND CAR RUNS IS CATILYIC CONVERTOR STILL BAD

Your vehicle will still run if the exhaust is off. This does not mean that the catalytic converters are bad or good. If your vehicle was throwing codes before you removed the exhaust there is a good chance they need replaced, or if the exhaust coming out of the tailpipe smells bad they may need replaced as well.

Generally, Catalytic converters will last the life of your car unless they are damaged with something other than normal wear and tear.

Exhaust coming from Middle catalytic convertor...small stream...losing power...3 cylinders misfiring...check engine light blinking

The catalytic converter is DEFINETELY blocked causing all of the above, take caution that permanent damage does not occur from extreme heat that can be generated.Hope this helps, unfortunately cats are not cheap
