I tried sloshing a fairly low amt of remaining gas in the tank (from idle to drive to reverse, etc., for about two minutes and presto it seems to have been freed up of rust.

The only solution would be to bring down the gas tank and taking the fyel pump out to fix the gas float

My float is stuck and buying a new fuel pump assembly is out of the question, is there anything i can do to repair myself?

It is rare that this will help, but sometimes if you fill the fuel tank all the way to the top of the fuel inlet (where you put gas in) it can "unstick" the float.

One possible reason a float sticks is someone overfilled the tank.

My fuel gauge stopped working

Hi, probably your gas tank float doesn't work. According to me cause of the problem , some metal parts of gas tank float mechanism is stuck or the gas tank float is dislocated.

Fix a stuck gas float

I think you will find you no longer have a carburetor on your vehicle, so you have no carb float.
if you mean the float for the gas gauge, this is in the gas tank. Google procedures and be careful......

My fuel gauge doesn't work on my 97 Pontiac grand prix

my guess would be the fuel sender in the gas tank .the float is rusted stuck or just worn out . big job you need to pull the tank and the strap bolts usely break or need zip cut off .can be dangerous you need to get all the gas out of the tank . probably a job for a mechanic.

Nissan pathfinder 97 ran out of gas now it won't start, do you know why?

If it turns over but does not fire then it is prolly the fuel pump. Running them dry is not healthy especially with the ethenol in todays gas.

97 nissan pathfinder, it feels like the car is running out of gas, when you give in gas it suges, changed the fuel filter, did a tune up, checked the fuel pressure and flow, and there is no code

Lately there has been alot of questionable fuel going around - I would put a heavy duty fuel system cleaner through it and check for a cracked or missing vacuum line.

2000 toyota celica gas gauge is stuck at 3/4 tank, when i fill the tank up it shows full but as soon as it hits 3/4 it stays there. what could it be?

Seems like the float level unit in the gas tank is damaged, and not traveling all the way down when fuel is consumed. It is an inexpensive part, $25-50 , but quite a hassle to install.
