Question about 1998 Toyota Corolla

Corolla 99 back seats won't lock

My Corolla 99 has the capability of letting the back seat down through the release pull knobs in the trunk. To put the seats back into the upright position I just push it back up until I hear the locks pop. I've done this several times in my 7 years of owning it without problems.
However, recently the seats won't lock back into place afterward. The locks that should lock the back seats into place won't lock. How do I fix it? Please explain in detail. Thanks!

My trunk is stuck on my 2000 Toyota Corolla CE. How can I get the back seats to fold down so I can access the trunk from the back seat?

I'm not sure which version of the rear seats you have fitted. If there is no button or pull lever visible you will have to get physical with the back seat. You will need to lever the corner of the back seat forward, insert your arm and trip the release with your finger.

I recently put some things in my trunk and now the lock won't turn. And some genius decided that the back seats should not fold down. Am I screwed?

i am talking from memory,and i may be wrong........but
look under the front base of the rear seats, you should find 2x screws, undo these and lift the seat squab up and frontwards out the flat possition then you will be able to find the screws that hold the backrest in possition and remove....

I went to open my 2005 Toyota Corolla trunk using my car key. When I rotated the key, the mechanism went 90 degrees CCW but the trunk remained locked. I tried the trunk release in the car but it wouldn't...

If you have rear seats that fold down you can access the latch mechanism from the left side rear seat....if you are flexible. pull the corner of the seat forward to allow your arm to slide in behind. about 14-16" in, feeling up inside the trunk you can feel 3 quarter size holes in the sheet metal. The second hole has the cable release arm. stick your finger up there are pull towards you. this will release the seat allowing it to fold down. Crawl into the trunk. there is a glow in the dark release handle on the inside of the trunk lid to open the trunk. Note, these are instructions for an '04 corolla but I think it should work

2003 Toyota Corolla LE back seat fold down? how?!

My 05 Corolla trunk would not open. I used a broom handle shoved between the rear seats to activate the emergency release handle on the back of the trunk lid. It took about 2 minutes. When I tapped it just right the lid popped open. This was better the damaging the rear seat by bending it to reach the seat releass mechanism. It turned out that the cable came off in the asembly probably from slamming the lid shut. Once the cable was returned to its location I used needle nose pliers to sqeeze the metal tighter around the cable.

I really want to put carseat covers on the backseat of my 1999 Corolla. I do not see any knobs in my trunk. Is it possible to pull them down?

Check to see if there is a ripcord, it may look like a small strap like loop, pull it away from seat and move the seat to the lower position.

Open the back trunk, look near the top of the trunk, and pull the two black levers. They have a seat folding down symbol. That will release the locks to fold the back seat down.

Back Seat down

Open the trunk, you'll see two knobs on the left and right. Pull both of them, that will unlock the back seats. After you do that you'll be able to let the seat down.

2007 chevy cobalt, trouble folding down back seat

(The engineers couldn't have hid these much better if they tried...)

1) Open the trunk lid all the way.
2) Look up under the inside top edge of the trunk opening.
3) You will see two 1" wide x 1/2" thick, black plastic knobs, about 1' apart from each other.
4) Pull straight back on a knob to release one of the back seat halves.
5) Go forward to the back seat compartment and lay each released seat the rest of the way down.
6) Paint the buttons white so the next person can find them easier!
