Question about 2000 Hyundai Sonata
One morning on my way to work:
car started great so i drove from the parking lot. At about 200 meters the car engine just died and i was lucky to be at a stop sign. I tried to start it again for 3 times. It cranks but the engine does not turn over. I opened my hood and saw the alternator belt ripped. Got it towed and replaced the alternator belt. However until now it cranks but the engine doesn't turn over. Thanks for the help in advance.
What's the difference between 'CRANKS" or 'TURN OVER'? Do you MEAN the engine cranks (turns over) but WONT start? If this is the problem, then there are NUMEROUS possible causes (i.e., fuel pressure (fuel pump) Bad Gas/Petrol, Ignition, Air Flow, Cylinder Compression, Crank Position Sensor, vacuum leaks, Nut behind the steering wheel, ECM, etc. An alternator belt would not cause the problem you describe. Take the vehicle back to the mechanic you replaced the belt and tell him to fix it!
