Question about 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser

2001 pt cruiser running hot after changing thermostat and radiator cap, it starts wonderfully, never even stalls when it runs hot, the only thing running hot is the antifreeze, it bubbles up , and the car only goes hot after about 45minutes of driving, hoping its not the head gasket, any opinions?

I have a 2001 PT and it overheats the rad fan will not turn on. I took it to auto zone to hook it up to the code reader and it said that BBECM has detected an open or shorted condition in the radiator fan relay circuit Probable cause open or shorted high speed radiator fan relay.
What dose this mean is it a relay or the computer. I have read alot about the pcm needing re-programed is this something the Chrysler deal should take care of it seem to be happening to alot of people.

    Always check your relays and fuses. They are easy to change and inexpensive. There is a fuse box near the engine. Simply remove the relay per the diagram on the lid and replace. You can check it with a voltage meter if you like ,but they run around $25.

Likely it's not a head gasket (yet) You should check your fans to make sure they are coming on properly. check that there are no leaves or debris stuck between the radiator and the a/c condenser and that the radiator is flowing well.
Even though the engine is running well after it gets hot, it is not good for the head gasket and can cause it to fail...take care of the problem asap!!!

01 pt cruiser is overheating only when the a/c is on have changed radiator cap, thermostate, relays and sensor that tells the fan when to turn on and off


Make sure your radiator isn't clogged or dirty, then it's very important to know at how many degrees do the sensor that you bought activate the fans (It's written on the sensor). Be sure that is no more than 80°C (176°F), cause most of those sensors activate above 100°C (212°F) at that point the water of the radiator is already boiling so you don't want that. After that the radiator cap should be 16psi of pressure to open if it's below 16psi change it. Finally buy a good antifreezer/coolant (I would recommend Prestone Antifreezer/coolant)

I need a wiring diagram for the radiator fan on my 2001 pt cruiser


Check your public library they may even have access to a paid data base. Maybe this will help. With electric fans it's almost always the motor, It's a two speed fan that has three wires. The black is ground, the dark green is the hot for the low speed and the yellow is the hot for the high speed. Run jumpers from the battery to the fan connector. If the fan doesn't run the motor is bad.

2002 pt cruiser overheating was told i need a new raditor and thermostat for 1 grand sounds fishy


Flush rad & change coolant & thermostat. Check operation of rad fan, & make sure it is coming on when engine reaches normal operating temperature. Be sure to bleed air out good when refilling rad/cooling system. Start engine & turn heater on when refilling & let rad fan come on & off at least 2 or 3 times before putting cap back on rad, and refill rad as needed as you do this. then fill return bottle to proper level & see what happens.

2001 pt cruiser no heat


did you check the fluid level by removing the rad. cap? Radiator should be full to top. If Chryslers are low on coolant, the heater will not blow warm air.

Car overheating


I also own a 2001 pt cruiser and i am currently having to same problem. We have found that it maybe the radiator is clogged up or is clogging. This may possibly cause your radiator to crack ( mine has) . If you find an answer please post the solution.
