Question about 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Service Engine Soon Light

I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT; and it has a cold air intake on it. However, the air filter came off the other day, so I was thinking that too much air tripped the O2 sensor. However, I took it to a friend of mine who is a mechanic and he told me that it had to do with too much air getting in that caused the sensor to be tripped.

However, on my way to work this morning, the SVC Engine Soon light came on again, I did not check under the hood when I got to work, but Is there any advice you can offer me so this does not happen again?

Please Help! :(

Car will not stay idling when it's warmed up. What would be the cause of this?

Does the engine immediately stall and shut off right after you start it? Can you keep the engine running by holding down the accelerator pedal a bit? This happened to my Eclipse (MY2000, 2.4L I4), and let me tell you it was an interesting experience trying to keep the engine running at a stop light (by pressing both the brake and the accelerator at the same time). The problem turned out to be the Idle Air Control Valve. The valve had failed in my car, so when the car started the IAC valve failed to keep the air intake valve open, so the engine was starved of air and would stall.
The part itself is easily replaceable, it took me about 10-15 minutes after I had located where it was on the engine. The IAC valve sits directly under the throttle body air intake. You'll have to remove the accordion-like air intake hose from the throttle body and it will be right under that opening. Here's a picture I googled up:
In the image you can see the accordion-like air intake, however this person has a third-party air filter installed. In the image near the top you can see a red cap, right in front of that is where the air intake connects to the throttle body, and right below that connection is where the IAC is. Take the air intake hose off, unbolt the IAC, replace it, then put the air intake hose back on. I also disconnected my battery to clear the ECU so that the car computer could relearn how to idle with the replacement part (in case it became an issue).
Here's the part on Amazon:
Good luck! -Ingo

How do I reset my service engine soon light on my 2000 Eclipse GT?

The light can be extinguished by accesing the computer with a diagnostic code reader however just resetting the light does not address the problem that caused it to come on.
Take it to Autozone, they can read the error and tell you what it is and reset it for... for free

Service engine soon light on idle problems (stalling) when cold. Can I try cleaning mass air flow and if so with what? 2000 gt

yes try cleaning out the intake, also check for what color and smell your exhaust is before and after its warmed up, since it only stalls when its cold it couldnt be anything with the head gaskets, so im going to says it either your air intake or fuel injectors, you might also have buildup either in the fuel injector heads or in the cylinders itself, buildup of any kind would make it idle roughly when cold and stall exactly like what your describing, hope i helped some :) let me know

Service engine light on 2000 mitsubishi eciplse GT V-6

This could be as simple as a loose or defective gas cap. Beyond that you will need to retreve the codes with an O.D.B. II code reader.

PO170 is a fuel trim malufunction. On a V6 this applies to the rear cylinder head. Lots of possibilities as fu"el trim" refers to the volume air flow sensor, fuel injector, fuel pressure, engine coolant senor, air intake sensor, barometric pressure sensor, oxygen sensor, intake air leaks, or cracks in the exhaust manifold

My 2001 mitsubishi eclipse gt stalls when i come to a stop. Runs great and does not stall when cold. will cleaning the throttle body fix this issue?

Air & Fuel Filter check, Check the gap on your spark plugs. Heat makes metal contract and the cold makes it expand

clean and recharge your cold air filter, if you never had it cleaned, you can buy the recharge kit for your cold air filter, follow the instructions, if that doesn't work check your mass air flow sensor, have your mechanic clean it and test it.
